The next couple of weeks I have the pleasure to stay at @villalenafoundation to work on new pieces and focus on developing my art practice. Beeing cared for by @villalena gives the perfect opportunity to really lean into one’s practice without the noise from everyday life. What a way to be an artist!!! by @sisseholstpedersen

Artist spotlight for UNDERGROWTH 🌿
Sisse Holst Pedersen

@sisseholstpedersen is a Danish ceramic artist educated at KADK – Bornholm and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Her work has been presented across Denmark and Europe, including at Four Boxes, Art Rotterdam, and Jiuba Art Space. She has taken part in residencies at SB6A, OTTE, and Kirsten Kjærs Museum, and is a two-time recipient of the Danish Arts Foundation working grant.

Working from a sensory and material-based approach, Holst Pedersen’s practice invites dreaming and wondering as valid modes of knowledge. Through clay, she explores the Anthropocene and the shifting relationship between humans and nature, questioning whether the boundary between the two is as fixed as we often assume. Her works propose nature not as a passive backdrop, but as an active agent, one that speaks, acts, and responds.

Central to her practice is the belief that today’s ecological crises cannot be addressed through technological solutions alone. Instead, Holst Pedersen emphasizes imagination as a vital resource: a tool for envisioning alternative ways of existing in and with the world. Her ceramic sculptures and immersive installations open windows into speculative realities where senses and imagination are integral to being, fostering deeper connections to our surroundings and to possible futures.
