Finally properly introducing myself and showing my face…

I’m Ruby, founder of Sister Directory. And this is Jesse, the brains behind the whole thing.

I built Sister as a place for women to find non toxic and better alternatives to everyday products. Jesse’s the one who nudged me to actually build it after I became unwell and found the whole world of “better alternatives” an absolute minefield.

The directory keeps growing, new categories most weeks. It’s not perfect and it’s very human made, but more and more of you are using it every day. I’m loving connecting with people on Substack too, writing there weekly, and the community keeps getting lovelier.

This week on Substack I share my evening wind Dow routine. All of the things that help me improve the quality and length of my sleep.

Epsom salt bath. Dry brushing. Blue light blockers after sunset. Red reading light. Magnesium on the feet. Silk pillowcase. Done.

Not all of it every night. But the nights I do it properly, I feel the difference.

In case you needed the reminder…

To eat cereal for dinner. To have the sweet treat. To go out and have a few drinks with your friends. To go to bed late sometimes. To skip the routine, the tracking, the perfect version of yourself.

Not every moment needs to be productive. Not every walk needs a podcast. Not every evening needs a to do list. Not every Sunday needs a plan. Sometimes you just need to sit somewhere quiet and let your brain be still for a bit.

We’re so wired to feel like we should be doing something all the time that doing nothing feels uncomfortable. But doing nothing is doing something. It’s rest. And rest is not a reward for being busy. It’s a basic need that most of us are ignoring.

Barefoot shoes I’d actually buy…

Let’s be honest, a lot of barefoot shoes look a bit clunky. The wide toe box that makes them so good for your feet is often the exact thing that makes them look, well, not very cute.

So I wanted to put together a proper edit of barefoot shoes that don’t scream “barefoot shoe” the second you look at them.

A quick honest aside, the five toe shoes are definitely not for everyone. I know they’re divisive. But I actually just bought a pair myself and I’m genuinely obsessed. So comfortable, and I can already feel them starting to correct some of the misshapen foot issues I’ve been dealing with for years.
