Mia woezor, Amɛnɔrviwo,

Today is my dzigbɛ, the day I was born, so you can call me a Friday baby. Fridays are usually when I share on Substack, a small ritual of honouring myself and the thoughts that land within me.

Last Friday, I published my latest piece in response to the floods that affected Ghana and neighbouring west African countries. At its heart, it's a reflection on how we can become better stewards of our environment, ourselves, and one another. It asks what happens when cultural amnesia causes us to forget the values, spiritual wisdom, and responsibilities that once taught us how to live in alignment with the land.

This piece also reminds me of a special friend, now an Ancestor. Water Memory always 🕊

The link to my Substack is in my bio, flow with me 💜

Etsi Ha (Water Song)

'You listened to me once, deeply.
In my stillness I mirror you back
Watch you swim in my undulating waves of laughter
You trusted me enough to let me run through your generational fingers. Wash up against your skin stories, storeys of kins
There was so much chemistry, so much chemistry.
My hydrogenesis, twice bonded, twice reaching, became an oxygeneration for you
Now you see me differently.
I still see you

But you’ve forgotten our song.'

My poetic response to the flood that happened in Ghana and neighbouring countries. See it as a plea from water to humanity.

Full poem is on my substack, with a full audio option for your ears, heart and soul.

Happy reading/listening x

Today is July 1st.

As we mark another Republic Day and reflect on what sovereignty truly means, many of our Ghanaian siblings are waking up to flooded homes, destroyed livelihoods, displacement, and uncertainty.

This isn’t about pointing fingers while people are suffering. Right now, our priority must be community, compassion, and support for those who have lost so much.

But love for Ghana also requires honesty.

The floods are not only a consequence of heavy rain. They are the result of years of neglect, weak enforcement, blocked drains, plastic-choked gutters, building on wetlands, and putting profit before people and the environment. This is why accountability matters at every level, from how we as citizens treat our environment, to the responsibility of government, regulators, and private investors whose decisions shape how and where we build. Water will always find its path. The question is why we keep standing in its way.

Mama Ghana has always found ways to sustain us, feed us, and carry us through difficult times. But how can she continue to care for us if we refuse to care for her?

Real sovereignty is more than a date in our history. It is the collective responsibility to protect our land, hold institutions accountable, and build a country that values people over greed.

For those affected by the floods, we stand with you. For the rest of us, let this not be another tragedy we forget when the waters recede. The change we want starts now!

Right now, two incredible women are on the ground gathering essentials to support affected communities like Tse Addo. They are accepting donations of non-perishables, water, warm food, clothes, and other basic supplies that can bring relief to those displaced.

If you are able to support, you can send contributions via Mobile Money or drop off items/supplies.

A week ago, Attention & Memory; Of Tsito was presented in Accra.
Presented by FDR @fdrcreativehive @fdrofficehub
Curated by Sitsofe Attah @sitsofewellness

A story that began with just passion and little to no resources or even proper structure has become something that’s even bigger than just me.

The work moved from Tsito into a different environment(Oyarifa) carrying the same memories that shaped my childhood and how I see the world.

I was born in Ho, moved around a lot growing up, and spent years trying to understand where I stood within all of that movement. Painting became the thing that slowed me down enough to pay real attention. First through portraits, then eventually through place itself.

This body of work comes directly from memory and observation. I’m interested in what remains within a place over time, carrying memory without announcing themselves loudly.

What meant the most during both the Tsito and Accra presentations was seeing people recognize themselves within the work, children pointing out familiar neighbourhoods, conversations happening naturally between strangers in the space, people standing in front of the paintings and remembering their own environments differently.

That’s the direction I want the work to keep moving in.

I’m interested in building long-term conversations around memory, material, place, and how contemporary African experiences can be approached from lived environments rather than distance.

Open to collaborations, exhibitions, curatorial conversations, gallery representation, publications, and future projects.

Attention & Memory; Of Tsito continues.

After a successful exhibition/exchange in Tsito for the past 2 weeks, Attention & Memory; Of Tsito now moves to Accra.

I need to know, ARE YOU READY????

Beginning this journey in Tsito meant everything to me especially because of where my work comes from but I also recognise that majority of my audience were not able to experience it.

The moment has arrived for you to come and experience the revolution for yourself here in Accra.

This next showcase continues the movement and carries everything that came from the first encounter (the conversations, the curiosity, the connection).

A different context, wider audience yet same intention.

If you missed it the first time, here’s another chance to experience it.

Date: 25th April, 2026
Time: 12pm to 8pm
📍Roohi Yire Building, Ghana Flag - Opposite Petrosol, Oyarifa.
CURATOR: SITSOFE ATTAH @sitsofewellness
Flyer Designer: Oliver Seyram Aziavi @loudseyram

Open to conversations, collaborations, and partnerships.

Happy 2nd ARTiversary to us.
The Art of Africa lives because of our community - supporting, guiding and making room for Ghana’s incredible young creatives to see themselves in their fullness. This journey hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been worth it. Every step has carried its own lessons, its own stretching and its own growth. And even when we haven’t been as present online, trust that the work has been alive and moving offline.

Recently, in Ghana, some young people lost their lives while searching for employment. No one should die in the pursuit of work. 🕊️ This is why bridging the gap in unemployment and underemployment matters, because access to opportunities can literally be the difference between life and death.

We’re all navigating challenging times - as individuals and as a collective - yet we’re all doing our best to shape change that is regenerative, not extractive. Community does not grow in isolation; neither does liberation. The systems that rely on separation lose power every time we choose to return to each other.

Kwame Nkrumah reminded us, “The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked with the total liberation of Africa.” That truth echoes beyond borders.

Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Jamaica, Haiti, Kenya, Myanmaar, Ethiopia, Somalia (and so many others), the world is calling for unity, for courage, for togetherness. We need each other more than ever.

So here’s to Year 2:
2 community.
2 culture.
2 creativity.
2 showing up, even when it’s hard.
2 choosing each other again and again.

Thank you for being part of this journey and choosing us 2. We’re only just getting started.

From our ‘art to yours. Love you all 🙌🏿🇬🇭💜✨

Children remind us that coming home to yourself begins with telling yourself the truth. And the truth is, I miss parts of me - the one that fully occupies my body and not just in my head. This is why I am so grateful for my small neph, he reminds me of the wonders of life, daily.

So family, here is a Sunday dose of good vibes from my family to yours. Big up Stepz for this track, my nephew loves it. Family please lets tag Stepz, let's see if we can get him to send a message to my nephew 🙌🏿

“The future of dance looks strong, but not without challenges”

At Speaking Dance 2024: Bridging the Gap, Dr. Narh Hargoe and Sitsofe Attah reminded us that strength alone won’t sustain the next generation if we don’t fix the systems that support it.

Funding is being cut everywhere. Opportunities are shrinking. And yet, we’re expected to keep creating, teaching, and transferring knowledge across generations. That cycle only survives when artists are empowered, when policy aligns with purpose, and when dancers understand the politics shaping their reality.

Because whether we admit it or not, everything is politicized.

To build a future where dance continues to unify, we must become politically literate, advocate for structural change, and protect the ecosystem that allows movement to thrive.

As we approach Speaking Dance 2025: Rhythm, Rights, Revenue, we’re asking: how do we make sure dancers are not only heard, but also resourced and represented where decisions are made?

Join the conversation this October. Be part of the movement that keeps dance alive.

This video makes me laugh hard. All my sister @panafricax wanted to do was cook Banku and Okra soup and asked @chris_folie21 and I to be her sous chefs. What would normally take under an hour took about 3 hours. 🤣🤣🤣 It truly was a heartfelt and nourishing day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's becoming louder and clearer that we are not meant to do life alone. Yet society harks on about self-sufficiency, separatism and that strength means standing alone.

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay and this is just a gentle reminder that community and belonging our inherently within our human nature.
Here’s to finding the people and spaces where you can exhale, be seen, nourished, cook and truly belong.

Across cultures, dance has always been more than movement, it’s how we remember, how we heal, and how we connect.

At Speaking Dance 2024: Bridging the Gap, Sitsofe Attah captured this truth beautifully: ‘Dance is a repository.’ In every rhythm, there’s history; in every gesture, there’s communication that travels from one body to another.

Dance is how we return; to ourselves, to our roots, to the things that make us human. It’s how we tell stories that would otherwise be lost, how we carry memory without words, and how we bridge spaces divided by distance, politics, or identity.

Dancers are the truth tellers we fail to listen to, the living archive of our times.

As we move toward Speaking Dance 2025: Rhythm, Rights, Revenue, we’re asking, how do we protect the rhythm that carries our stories, uphold the rights of those who move culture forward, and ensure that the bodies behind the movement are valued and sustained?

The conversation continues this October. Be part of it.
