We are grieving the loss of one of our beloved forestry professors, Dr. Kofi Akamani. Dr. Akamani was deeply loved by his forestry family here at SIU and by colleagues across the globe. He had a gentle and kind demeanor and was known for his dedicated work ethic and positive attitude. We will dearly miss Kofi. Our hearts go out to all who loved him. ❤
A vigil is scheduled for Tuesday at 6 pm at the Ag building front lawn. A memorial will follow at a later date. Please share happy memories below. by @siuforestry

Hello Forestry students! This week is our BRUSH WEEK, with many opportunities to meet other students and find your way around our forestry RSOs; SAF and Timber sports Club.

Monday, August 24th: Intro & Tree ID hike - Meeting in the Ag Breezeway @ 5-6 PM

Tuesday, August 25th: Swimming at Kincaid Spillway - Meeting in the Ag Breezeway @ 4:30 PM for carpooling.

Wednesday, August 26th: CALPS BBQ & RSO Fair on the Ag Lawn @ 6-8 PM. Please come with your student ID!

Thursday, August 27th: Hiking at Giant City Nature Trail - Meeting at the Ag Breezeway @ 5:30 PM, Arriving at Trailhead by 6 PM

Friday, August 28th: Timbersports Demo and Bonfire at TIC (241 Thunderstorm Rd) - Meeting at the Ag Breezeway @ 3:30 PM for carpooling, Demo @ 4 PM, Bonfire at Dusk/Sunset

It's a small world! Four of our Saluki alums met up at the 2026 National Advanced Silviculture Program training at the University of Kentucky Robinson Forest. Kenny Ruzicka (silviculturist for Siuslaw National Forest), Gabby Will (sale preparation forester for Daniel Boone National Forest), John Lhotka (professor at UK), and Paul Tikusis (silviculturist for Custer Gallatin National Forest). Our summer field studies students have all been together at Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park in Missouri the last few days. Now they will split up with half the group heading east to the Smokies and half heading west to the Rockies.
