Mother

Mommy! Do you see that bird up in the sky?
Can we follow it?
Please!
That day mommy taught me birds could attack and peck at my head if I poked around.
I stopped flocking away with them like I used to.

Mommy I cant reach the cabinet
Can you help?
Please!
That day mommy said that I didn’t need anything from the cabinet.
Air would just fill up the space in my lungs and patch everything up.

Mommy can I play with my friends?
Can you drive me?
Please!
That day mommy said not to trust anyone other than her.
She was enough of a playmate, how could I even have questioned it.

Mommy I met this girl!
She really wants to meet you!
That day mommy said girls were no good.
I was a jewel in mother’s eyes, I only deserved the best.
And that’s what mother was.

Mommy I’m sad.
Why do I feel like a hollowed out box

Something’s sucking me dry.

Mommy why are you fattening me up?
I want to leave.
Is she about to devour?

Mother I’ve now left.
I’ve gained some of my flesh back.
And it’s no longer pale.

Mother I’ve now met a girl
and she likes it when I talk for myself.
Yesterday I walked in and caught her talking to herself.
I heard her whisper chants similar to yours.

At half your age however she was seen questioning.
She stared at herself in the bathroom mirror.
Where she saw all of the carnivorous tendencies you had.

It was a peculiar experience to see you in your 20s.
It was peculiar to hear you say that you never wanted to be a mother.
It was peculiar to see her fight something that engulfed you.

She so clearly was drowning and in her,
I saw someone rewrite and become
what you could have once been if you peaked into the glass.

I knew she wouldn’t devour me
but I’d lie if I said it wasn’t hard to watch her disintegrate.
I stood by as she pieced it out and ripped her flesh apart.
I stood by and waited for her to emerge back as herself.
Mother you broke free and finally let me be.

Now when I see that bird I flock mindlessly.
She doesn’t hold my hand like you did.
And now when we meet,
we link without devouring the other’s flesh. by @siwaa.x
