I’ve just passed the three month mark of being a sole trader 🤍

It was one of the scariest and best decisions I’ve ever made in my career

I’d wanted to do it for so long, but the fear of failing and not having any financial security behind me always held me back

I took the leap anyway, and I’ve honestly never been happier than I am right now

I finish every day feeling accomplished, proud and genuinely happy

To all of my clients, thank you for your support and your loyalty

I’ve always cared deeply about my clients and my work, but working for myself, that care and sense of responsibility has only grown stronger

I’m more invested in every client and every relationship than ever before, and I feel so much more present and connected to everyone I work with

It’s been such a warm and loving experience

I always thought I needed a lot of money behind me to start my own business, and that’s what always stopped me

Then one day something just shifted and I thought, just do it

All I needed was a few clients behind me, and everything else I could figure out along the way

So if you’re out there wanting to go out on your own, my advice is take the leap

Believe in yourself and believe in your success

Covering grey is easy. Placing it is the skill.

Grey reflects light differently to pigmented hair. Fight it and you get a band. Work with it and it becomes your highlight.

That’s why I went warm here. Copper and gold sit around the silver so it reads as dimension. Neutralised just enough that nothing pulls brassy.

Finished with Alpha Sleek so it moves like silk.

Grey blending isn’t a lighter version of coverage. It’s a different discipline.

Every colour I create starts with a feeling.

This one started with a sunset.
Molten copper.
Warm amber.
That last flicker of gold before the light slips away.

I wanted colour that glows from within. Colour that shifts every time it catches the light.
Dia Light gave me exactly that. The shine. The depth. The warmth that lives in every strand.

This moodboard became the brief. The final transformation is on my page now.

The copper I’ve been dreaming of.

Warm like late afternoon light.
A shine that catches every turn of the head, and doesn’t let go.

Dialight 8.43 for honeyed golden warmth.

Last week Kérastase invited me to the NGV for Power Talks with Adwoa Aboah. I extended the invitation to Elle, who runs her own business within mine. Sharing nights like this with the women I work beside matters to me.

Adwoa has built a career on refusing to be just a face. Model. Activist. Founder of Gurls Talk. Mother. Every role grounded in one thing. Truth.

I sat there beside Elle, a mother of two girls, thinking about my own daughter. About the conversations I never had at her age, and the ones I’m determined she will. About raising girls who never shrink themselves to fit a room.

That’s what I want SJ+Co to be. A space where women are seen, heard and allowed to take up room. Where they build something of their own. The colour is the craft. The conversation is the point.

I came home energised. Clearer. Reminded why I do this.
