I love new starts. A new year, a new month, a new week... the reminder that I'm never stuck, I can always change. I love this trend I'm seeing of IN/OUT. The truth is, to make a change you have to remove/replace what wasn't serving you.💕 by @sjanedevore
I don't actually like 2023 Recap reels. It's easy to look at someone's highlights and think "they are happier, more successful, more fun than I am -what's wrong with me?" The truth is this year has been challenging. When things are hard it's easy to focus on what is wrong, what's missing. Putting together this 2023 reel gave me the chance to reflect and what I realized is that even in the midst of my hardest struggles I created moments of joy and happiness and laughter ... it wasn't easy and I'm really proud of myself for showing up for the things that matter most in life. Life is rarely all good. There is bad in the good and good in the bad. We get to chose where we put our emphasis.. in what's "wrong and missing" or "what's beautiful and right". by @sjanedevore
The other day I was in line at Costco looking at the cute young couple checking out in front of me. The wife had triplets in the front of a full cart and the husband had a flat bed cart stacked high with diapers. The cashier read their total ($550) and the husband dug in his wallet only to realize he'd left his credit card at home. I casually listened as he asked his wife if she had her card (she didn't) and the cashier asked if they had apple pay (they didn't). "That sucks" I thought as they got ready to leave their stuff and go home to get their credit card. Then it hit me (duh) "hey, do you have venmo?" I asked him. He did! "I'll buy your stuff and you can venmo me!" It was the simplest thing, but they were so grateful. I walked out of Costco with a big smile on my face and a happiness in my heart that I hadn't felt in awhile. Sure I helped them, but doing something nice for someone else helped me even more. -That's the magic of service. ✨ by @sjanedevore
"Gratitude" has been a message that keeps showing up for me lately 💕 "Gratitude can transform any situation. It alters your vibration, moving you from negative energy to positive. It's the quickest, easiest, most powerful way to effect change in your life—this I know for sure." -Oprah A friend recently shared that in her darkest days in alcohol addiction she sat down and wrote a list of 50 things she was grateful for. She said that even in the depths of her pain she was easily able to write down 50 things, She hung that list up on her mirror and read it every morning. It carried her as she fought her way out of hell. "When I started counting my blessings my whole life turned around" -Willie Nelson My friend challenged me to write my own list of 50 things I'm grateful for. My list is hanging on my mirror, the funny thing is none of them are "things". Most of them are people. Happiness actually has nothing to with what you have. I am looking for ways to incorporate the practice of gratitude in my life and I would love to know what you do... by @sjanedevore
And I clearly struggle riding a bike!😂 I consider myself a very open, "what you see is what you get" kind of person. If I'm having a bad day most people can tell🤦‍♀️. I've never considered this a good trait in fact I've always wished I were better at "putting on a front". Lately though I have come to appreciate that it's one of the things that helps me connect to people. Connection comes through realness and authenticity. I have some of the best conversations with people just by showing up as my messy imperfect self. If you know me... what is something you know about me?😊 by @sjanedevore
I remember the first time Steve and I attended the Olympia, 10 years ago. We watched prejudging from the other side of the fence in the expo center then had tickets to finals waaaay in the back. We never imagined that someday Steve would be judging and I would be sitting in the front row. Possibly my favorite thing about bodybuilding is the way it tears down societal barriers. Age, gender, social status, wealth, ethnic and cultural differences are erased onstage and in the gym. Finding common ground paves the way for love, understanding and acceptance -something we all need more of. Steve and I have met amazing people from all over the world and made some of our strongest friendships through this sport. I am so grateful for all of the good people this industry has brought into my life. by @sjanedevore
"I guess this is my new normal"😔 I distinctly remember having this thought. It was 2020 and I was so discouraged. I was tired, I wasn't recovering from my workouts, I always felt sore. My body felt heavy. I would wake up around 4am and struggle to fall back asleep. Not because I was worried, my brain just wouldn't shut off. I had a handful of prescriptions and the doctors said "You're done having babies so let's just fix you with a bunch of exogenous hormones." It just didn't feel right. I thought "maybe this is just how it feels to be 40🤷‍♀️" I jumped into learning. One of my key findings was the importance of gut health. It is estimated that 30-40% of the population has functional bowel problems. 70% of our immune function comes from the gut, 90% of our serotonin is produced there. I would argue that the majority of our health concerns are rooted in the gut. Fix the gut and you will change your life. Many practitioners like to make healing the gut complicated and expensive. It isn't. If you're interested in what I'm taking DM me. by @sjanedevore
10 out of 10! My good friend @sjanedevore discovers or creates all the best food hacks and recipes, and this one by @chickfila did not disappoint! Yes, fitness AND food can be your passion - it’s all about balance! Eating a diet of nutritionally dense food, high in protein 80% of the time, and whatever else you want to enjoy 20% of the time is, where it’s at. 🙌🏻 Give it a try! • 3 large fries • 1 large Mac & Cheese • 2 Spicy Honey Pimento chicken sandwiches (do not use the buns, and ask for extra pimento on the side) • Drizzle of honey Cut up the chicken on the sandwich, dump everything on a tray and enjoy! . . . . . . . #foodie #foodhack #chickfila #8020 #balanceddiet #fitfoodie #weightlifting #absbyamy by @sjanedevore
Do you cold plunge? I have been surprised at just how many people like to torture themselves!😂 I HATE being cold. Like, I can't think of anything I hate more. BUT I have physically felt the benefit of doing cold plunges and so I force myself to do them regularly. According to research 11 minutes per week is the sweet spot. You can divide it up however you like. I usually do 2-3min at a time. If you do cold plunges I'd love to know how long and how often you do it and what benefits you have seen from it. Also any tips for making yourself get in? I don't know if I'll be able to do it in the winter!🥶 by @sjanedevore
I'm taking my fun little hobby public! I've been spray tanning by word of mouth for years and now I'm branding!☺️ Follow me @sun.kissed.bysarah for pics, pricing and tan care tips. Text to get on my schedule ☀️ by @sjanedevore
It wasn't easy but I did it! I ate tacos for every meal for 6 days straight! Highly recommend 👌 by @sjanedevore
When my kids were little people would always tell me "how fast" it would go by. And I'd smile and nod -but I didn't believe them because often times the days felt really long. But they were right. It goes by fast. Too fast. And it feels like it just keeps going faster!. I wish I could press pause or maybe even rewind so that I could do it again, but better. Earlier this summer I sat down to write a list of all the things that are important to me. The first one was easy, my family... And that was where my listed started and ended. after writing "family" I couldn't think of anything else that even came close. Experiences and memories with the people I love are my most valuable possessions. This last week with my daughters in Maui was magical. Memories were made and bonds were strengthened. As sad as it is to feel like time is running away from me as they get older, I am grateful for the reminder it gives me to not get caught up in the day to day things. Chayse and I were talking as we packed to come home about experiences and memories.. that they aren't just confined to vacation. We have the opportunity every day to connect, to live, to be present and to make memories. It's easy to do on vacation. It takes a lot more intention to do it in daily life but I think the reward is even greater ✨ See my Maui 2023 highlight for all of our adventures -with commentary 😁😂 by @sjanedevore
