What nobody tells you about wedding speeches… The fastest way to make a guest feel unseen? Get their name wrong in front of everyone. Swipe for what to send your MC, and do it at least two weeks before the day 👉 Save this for your planning. #weddingplanning #weddingtips #ukbride #weddingmc #weddingspeeches by @sjeandco
Unpopular opinion: talent isn't your problem. Visibility is. So many brilliant MCs. So many polished speakers. So many presenters who light up a stage, and still don't get booked. That's why SJE & Co exists. We put talented hosts in front of the clients who need them: weddings, conferences, awards and more. Multilingual and multicultural talent especially welcome. UK-wide, based in the North. Apply at sjeandco.com #mcsuk #publicspeakers #eventpresenter #hostjobs #ukeventsindustry by @sjeandco
Here's what separates a good MC from a great one. A good MC reads the running order. A great one reads the guests. Meet Richard, one of the MCs on the SJE & Co roster. Quick-thinking, witty, and at home at weddings, corporate events and celebrations alike. He keeps the energy up, the timings tight, and your guests with him from the first welcome to the last dance. Nobody warns you about this part of wedding planning. The speeches overrun. The photos take longer. The food comes out late. It's normal. What matters is having a plan before the day. Swipe for the three things to agree with your MC 👉 Save this, and send it to your planner. #weddingplanning #weddingtips #ukbride #weddingmc #EventPlanning by @sjeandco
The voice you hear before anyone walks on stage? That's the Voice of God announcer, one of the most underrated roles at a live event. Welcome to the roster, Jonathan Pagden, "The Voiceologist" 🎙️✨ For thirty years, Jonathan has kept high-profile live events polished and on schedule, from the Coronation Processional Route to National VE Day Celebrations. He works from the production desk as an off-stage co-presenter. As winners walk up, he fills the moment by explaining why they've won, so there's no dead air and your host can stay with the audience. "The voice of calm… a pleasure to work with." – British Chambers of Commerce. Planning an awards night, conference or gala with lots of names and walk-ons? Ask us about Jonathan. Available to travel. Our founder learned this the hard way that almost no event starts on time. She never planned to be an MC. Someone gave her a chance with the mic, and she said yes. What she found wasn’t the spotlight. It was the clock. The welcome that starts twenty minutes late. The speech that runs twice as long as planned. The kitchen that needs to hold bringing out the food. The programme that changes the morning of the event. Guests rarely see any of it. The host feels all of it. That’s what she built SJE & Co around. Every host on our roster is chosen for what they do when the timings slip, not only for how they sound when they don’t. And we talk about delays before the day, not on it looking at what’s fixed, what can flex, and who decides on the night. Our first event as an agency came back with five-star feedback. That’s the standard we hold every booking to. Planning a conference, awards night, gala or wedding? Tell us about it. What guests see on the night is the last ten per cent. The rest is decided weeks earlier. Our first event as an agency came back with five-star feedback, and the brief is a big reason why. Swipe and test yourself on six questions. Be honest. If a few made you pause, you're in good company. Most planners have never been asked them, and they're usually the difference between a night that feels smooth and one that feels stressful. We've put every question a host needs answered onto one page. It's called The Host Brief, and it works for conferences, awards, galas and weddings, whoever you book. Comment BRIEF and we'll send it to you. #EventPlanning #ConferencePlanning #WeddingPlanning #EventChecklist #MCagency by @sjeandco
The industry loves a label. Wedding host. Corporate host. Cultural host. Once someone has one, it's hard to get booked for anything else. But look at what each room asks for. A big multicultural wedding: 400 guests, three generations, two families, speeches nobody has timed, and a venue that needs the room turned by 11. An awards night: 30 categories, nervous winners, sponsors who need their moment, and a hard finish. Different rooms. Same skills. Timing, warmth, judgement, and knowing when to step back. The host who brings a wedding hall to its feet can open your leadership conference. The host who keeps your AGM tight can make a wedding feel effortless. At SJE & Co we match on the room, not the label. Tell us about your event. Link in bio. #EventPlanning #CorporateEvents #WeddingMC #DiversityInEvents #ukeventsindustry by @sjeandco
Looking back, the signs were obvious. Some of the best MCs we knew weren’t getting booked. Not because they couldn’t hold a room. They could. We’d watched them do it. They just weren’t online much. No polished showreel. No big following. So when planners went looking, they didn’t find them. Our founder knew that story from the inside. She never set out to be an MC. Someone handed her a mic and gave her a chance, and it changed the direction of her work. As a host herself, she also knows what clients need from the person holding that mic. SJE & Co exists to give that chance on purpose. We keep our roster small and hand-picked. We vet the craft, not the follower count. And we put our name behind every person we put in front of your guests. Our first event as an agency came back with five-star feedback. That’s the standard now. What nobody tells you about the moments behind the stage. After over a decade of hosting events, I've met remarkable people. Leaders, founders and creatives who look effortless in public, but whose real story happens off the mic. Introducing Off the Mic with Sonia Joy ✨ What started as conversations with event leaders has grown into something bigger. Each episode, I sit down with diverse voices in leadership and the creative industries. We talk about the decisions, the doubts and the lessons behind their biggest moments, including the ones they learned the hard way. Short, honest conversations worth your time. Ask any conference host which slot they dread. Most will say the same thing👇🏼 straight after lunch! People are full, the afternoon is long and the phones have come out. A good host plans for a change of pace, a moment of humour, a quick reset before the next speaker. It’s one of the things we talk through with organisers before the day. What’s the hardest slot you’ve had to keep an audience awake for? 👇 enquiry@sjeandco.com #ConferenceHost #EventMC #EventProfsUK #ConferencePlanning #ManchesterEvents by @sjeandco
Is it too early to book your Christmas party? 🎄 Nope. And here’s why. The good venues, the good dates and the good hosts go first. Leave it till November and you’re choosing from whatever’s left. The best part of the year deserves a bit of planning. So here’s this week’s The Brief, our series for anyone planning an event: six things to settle early so your Christmas party feels easy 👇 Save it, or send it to whoever’s in charge of the office party this year (you know who you are). Be honest: are you team “book it now” or team “it’s only October”? 👀 #ChristmasParty #WorkChristmasParty #OfficeChristmasParty #CorporateEvents #EventPlanning by @sjeandco
