Introducing the face behind the account. Hi, I’m Janet Liu. I started my figure skating journey at age 27 with basic skills lessons. Five years ago I picked up a camera to photograph my dog and learned how to use the camera. I have photographed many Olympians, have created treasured photos hanging up in walls all over, been published in @usfigureskating’s Skating magazine, and @garrettlucash22 ‘s book cover. It’s never too late to find your inner sparkle!✨Special thanks to Brad Vigorito for suggesting I start this account, and for being the secret link who sent my photo to Ashley Wagner with credit to start with!Many thanks also to The Skating Club of Boston and US Figure Skating and Elin Schran with Joy Skate Productions for many opportunities to photograph world class skaters in world class shows. This is one milestone I am very proud of! My first Skating magazine cover photo and article photos!I’ve never looked forward to a piece of mail so much. When it came today, it was so exciting, as I never imagined little ole me who started skating at age 27 and took up photography much later in life would somehow lead to a cover of the U.S. Figure Skating Skating magazine!A big shoutout to @ben_anderson3 for his wardrobe and help throughout the shoot! Also special thanks to Brooke VanBramer for setting up the backdrop and on shoot ideas, along with Alisa and Misha’s choreographer Renee Roca, who made a special appearance! Last week, Act I of Boston made their 2026 season debut at Ice Chips 2026: A World Journey. This incredible team is made up of current National and International level skaters across every discipline including singles, pairs, dance, synchro, Excel, showcase, and more.This April, they’ll head to the 2026 Nations’ Cup, aiming to capture their third consecutive World Championship.It’s truly an honor to coach and work with these talented young artists each week. When I was a little girl watching my favorite skater Brian Boitano win the 1988 Calgary Olympics with my family, little did I imagine that one day my photos would be on NBC’s Today Show and NBC’s Olympic Team Selection show, where the portraits were prominently displayed behind the skaters during their performance and interviews on NBC!! It came as a surprise as I was watching the shows! Big congratulations to the amazing Olympic Team USA Figure Skaters!🇺🇸⛸️Behind the scenes, my alter ego is a successful software engineer at Microsoft and adult skater. I am incredibly grateful and credulous at the 2025 season, the very lows of the plane crash that was devastating and heartbreaking to the highs, working for U.S. Figure Skating Champs Camp headshots, getting access to Boitano Lounge photos at Worlds (thanks Elaine! and getting to talk to Brian Boitano and Katarina Witt), sitting next to Dr. Tenley Albright, the 1956 Olympic gold medalist in Cortina, Italy, and so much more!!
