character #1: rusty nails

driven by traumatic experiences, rusty developed a great fixation on nails, which led her to sink a giant nail on her forehead in a desperate try to kill her nightmares and horrific thoughts
this homemade lobotomy turned her into a psychotic serial killer, empty of feelings and a twisted understanding of empathy. she goes after the people who, according to her, are victims of suffering and agony, feeling the duty to save them from existence.
her robotic arms increase the strength of her hammer strikes, killing her victims in a single blow and nailing them to her walls, creating her own creepy museum

so as you may have noticed, this year there’s no prompt list for october lmao
life is getting hard lately and finding the motivation to draw feels impossible, but i’ll be posting some characters based on random objects to get into the spooky season vibes :p by @sketchy.lis

mermay day 8: 👺🏺

#SketchyMermaids2026

a greek ceramic vase lays among the rests of an ancient shipwreck in the bottom of the aegean sea. but it’s not a normal vase: a mermaid dwells inside
centuries ago, this mermaid, known for her beauty, caused the ship to sink by attracting its sailors with her singing. when she went to explore it, she found a tengu mask that fused with her skin the moment she touched it, losing her perfect face forever. embarrassed, she decided to hide inside a giant vase, only coming out when archeologists try to recover the ancient relic. when this happens, she uses the power of the mask to trap the intruders into horrible hallucinations that lead them to death

mermay day 7: 🧩🕸️

#SketchyMermaids2026

this mermaid dwells in the darkness of the sea, amongst the rocks of the sea floor. her interior is hollow, held together by a spiderweb that acts as a structured body.
eight arms emerge from her torso, with skilled hands that are able to produce strong silk threads, which she uses to make a system of traps against the rocks to catch her victims
the spiderwebs inside her, covered by puzzle pieces, produce a beautiful melody as water currents filter through the gaps on her body, attracting and hypnotizing her prey’s before they meet their lethal destiny

mermay day 6: 📿⚾️

#SketchyMermaids2026

this mermaid can be found within the caribbean sea. she is known for being the most skilled batter of the seven seas
her power lies on her speed swing, which can create high pressure waves and strong underwater turbulences that trap, crush and sink any ship that is close enough to her territory, making it disappearing forever
a mystic rosary made of baseball balls is wrapped around her tail. every single ball represents each of her victories against the most fearsome monsters of the ocean, but it also acts as a talisman, as it stores great amounts of energy that channel strength into her body

mermay day 5: 🪭⏳

#SketchyMermaids2026

this creature dwells in the desert, swimming under the sand, and emerging eventually to attract travelers with her luring voice
she has the power to create illusions of oasis that catch those desperate thirsty travelers. once they are trapped into her deceit, they have to solve one of her riddles to get out of the mirage and a countdown begins, measured by the hourglass on her torso. if they fail, once the time runs out, she uses her seashell fans to create a strong sandstorm that bury them, transforming these travelers into sand sculptures that become part of her collection

mermay day 4: 🧠🦀

#SketchyMermaids2026

this hybrid mermaid could be considered a work of body horror: her strange figure is a mix between a mermaid and a crustacean, protected by a strong shell that fuses to her body like an exoskeleton. two strong big pincers substitute her hands and she has a set of crab legs that allow her to skitter through certain surfaces.
a massive ancient crab parasites her: it fuses into her skull, protecting her brain, while giving her a pair of eyes that stay open and vigilant even when she sleeps
however, she’s lost the ability to rationalize, and she acts out of pure instinct. she’s territorial, and every time someone intrudes her territory or supposes a menace, her powerful claws snap bones or even iron
the only moment she’s vulnerable happens when she feels threatened, as the parasite on her head opens, exposing her brain while emiting a strong light that blinds intruders before executing them

mermay day 3: 🪱🪢

#SketchyMermaids2026

this warrior mermaid dwells in the deepest part of the ocean. she doesn’t swim, she silently slithers through the rocks using her worm-like body
her body is covered by an exoskeleton formed by ropes tied in a shibari pattern that work as an armor
when someone enters her territory, she attacks them using her body, tying them into her knots and causing their death. she also uses her body and the inertia of water currents to strike her tail as a whip and drive enemies away

mermay day 2: 🏴‍☠️🦩

#SketchyMermaids2026

considered the queen of the pirates, this mermaid sails the ocean on a flamingo float that she once found on the shore and decided to turn into her own unique ship
she uses this floatie to navigate the ocean and guide her own pirate crew, which constantly follows her
despite of how funny she looks, her strategy is infallible: attracting ships using her luring voice to then attack them from underneath while her pirate crew works as a distraction. she destroys these ships, making them take on water so she can steal their wealth while ensuring control of the ocean
