People ask me often what being the daughter of a professional musician was like as a kid-
I feel like this photo right here sums it all up.
A kid, still so innocent despite being exposed to the “real world”at a young age. The juxtaposition of my pink dress vs the angst of the black, goth era. This is a place nestled down in Downtown Dallas, called the Bar O’ Soap. Bar in the front, laundromat in the back .
I played a lot of pool and pinball in that joint, while my dad played a lot of tunes. This is where I became infatuated with barbering, peering in the windows of Rob’s Chop Shop, tattoos at Skin & Bones, and met some of the great Dallas musicians- Jim Heath, Matt Hillyer, Tim Delaughter just to name a few. He’s been begging me for six months to let him cut his hair and today was the day that I finally gave in. It broke my heart and @jamiebriscoe cried her eyes out but it’s not our hair and it’s what HE wanted. Because at the end of the day, that was the problem.

He’s tired of everyone always asking if he’s a girl and I honestly can’t say that I blame him. It’s been happening more and more regularly lately and it’s gotten to the point that I had to leave my own feelings out of it. I would try to tell him that it’s just because he’s that handsome or that it’s short on the sides and top so it’s not a girl haircut, and no matter what I seemed to come up with, it didn’t change the fact that people confused him for a girl on a regular basis.

I was honestly worried that he was going to cut it and hate it but I kept seeing how excited he would get when he would sneak peeks in the mirror and the way he acted when he finally got to see the back made me understand completely. He looks like a boy and there’s no mistaking that now.

I love the natty look but I love him being happy even more and you guys have no idea how happy and confident this made him and I wish I would have let him the first time he asked ❤️💛💚
