What a pleasure having Steven as a guest at Skin by Emely! A special thank you to his wife Lisa for trusting me with her own facial treatments and for choosing to treat her husband to a facial for his birthday. It was my pleasure to take care of him!

July vs. October 🤍

Comedonal acne can be challenging to treat, but we’ve made some beautiful progress in just a few months!

Progress doesn’t happen overnight. It takes consistency, patience, and teamwork. We may also need to make adjustments along the way because everyone’s skin is different.

Have similar skin concerns and don’t know where to start?

Guatemala part II ☕️🥐

Day 3: My Birthday!

Started my birthday with massages at La Casa de los Masajes. Unfortunately, the experience was very mid, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

We stopped at Las Victorias, a local bakery in Zone 1, where we were staying, and walked around town. It was a Sunday, so everyone was out and about.

Next, we headed to Ciudad Cayalá for dinner. It’s like a beautiful, European inspired outdoor village filled with restaurants, shops, and gorgeous architecture. Definitely worth checking out!

I celebrated my birthday dinner at Casa Escobar, and the food was some of the best I’ve ever had!

Day 4: Museums, Food & Shopping

Started the day at San Martín for some of the best baked goods!

We explored two museums: MUSAC and Museo Ixchel del Traje Indígena, which was a great way to learn more about Guatemala’s history and culture.

For lunch, we tried Carne en Vara for Venezuelan food, and it was SO good!

We also checked out Oakland Place, one of Guatemala City’s popular shopping malls, and I was really impressed!

Tips for getting around:

We mostly walked everywhere during our trip, especially since we stayed in Zone 1. You can also use Uber or the metro to get around.

Guatemala is such a beautiful country, filled with beautiful people, rich culture, and incredible food. So much to explore and I didn’t even leave the city!

Day 1 | Exploring Guatemala 🇬🇹

El Parque Central — Explore the historic center and admire the beautiful churches and architecture throughout the area.

Mercado Central — A must visit for authentic local food and souvenirs! This market is MASSIVE, with so many vendors to explore. You could easily spend hours here.

Los Tres Tiempos — We ended the day with dinner at this rooftop restaurant. Great food and the best panoramic views of the city!

Day 2 | Adventure Day 🌋

Volcán de Pacaya — We booked our tour through Clark Tours via Expedia. They picked us up and dropped us off right in Guatemala City, without making any stops in Antigua.

Travel tip: If you’re only staying in Guatemala City, make sure to check your tour’s pickup and drop off route before booking. Many tour companies stop in Antigua, and the traffic can be INSANE!

El Pepián — After our hike, we stopped here for lunch. Great food and service, and conveniently located within walking distance of our drop off point after the tour. Hit the spot!

Support locally owned boutique hotels over big chains, and add Casa Carmel to your list for your next stay in Guatemala City!

A beautiful colonial home in the heart of the city’s historic center, conveniently located near the airport. Enjoy clean, comfortable accommodations, friendly staff, and a complimentary traditional Guatemalan breakfast with your stay.

When I was researching my trip to Guatemala, I found it difficult to find info about Guatemala City. Most of the travel content I came across focused on more popular tourist destinations like Antigua and Lake Atitlán. I hope sharing my experience helps someone planning their own trip!

Don’t be afraid to explore beyond the usual tourist destinations 🌺

What do you mean I got to hike an active volcano? 🌋💜

Pacaya is known as one of Guatemala’s beginner friendly volcano hikes, but don’t let that fool you. The altitude is no joke!
