King Kurt is a famous British psychobilly and rock-and-roll band formed in London in 1981. They are legendary within the subculture not just for their frantic, catchy music, but for their notoriously chaotic live stage antics. At a classic King Kurt show, the band famously wore dresses, initiated massive audience food fights with flour and eggs, gave out free radical haircuts on stage, and dumped buckets of wallpaper paste onto the crowd. They achieved mainstream success after signing with Stiff Records in 1983. Their iconic single "Destination Zululand" surged into the UK Top 40 (peaking at No. 36), which earned them a legendary, messy performance on BBC's Top of the Pops. Their highly regarded debut album, Ooh Wallah Wallah (1983), was produced by rockabilly legend Dave Edmunds. They followed it up with Big Cock in 1986 on Polydor Records. After originally splitting in 1988, the band has periodically reunited for wildly energetic festival tours and anniversary shows #kingkurt #psychobilly #punkrock #rockabilly taken in London, England by @skippintv

"Forgot My Name" is a raw, emotional dark-folk song by the independent American band Barefoot Surrender, released on their self-titled album on April 19, 2013. The band was a collaborative roots/folk project featuring several prominent musicians from the underground DIY acoustic scene:
• Benjamin Flippo (better known today as Benjamin Tod, the frontman of the acclaimed dark-country band Lost Dog Street Band). He wrote and sang the track.
• Ashley Mae (fiddle player for Lost Dog Street Band).
• Keith Smith and Nora O'Dea (from the old-time/jazz band The Resonant Rogues).
• Jason Dea West (folk singer-songwriter).
The name "Barefoot Surrender" was born out of combining the members' previous teenage projects: Keith and Nora's "Barefoot Symphony" and Benjamin's "Never Say Surrender". #barefootsurrender #lostdogstreetband #busking #folkpunk #cowpunk #punkrock #streetpunk taken in Nashville, Tennessee by @skippintv

The Insomniacs were a power-pop/garage rock trio originally from Englishtown, New Jersey, formed in 1989. The band was built around brothers David Wojciechowski (bass) and Robert Wojciechowski (guitar), along with drummer Michael Sinocchi. Deeply rooted in the NY/NJ mod scene, their sound was heavily inspired by 1960s British Invasion bands like The Who, The Small Faces, and The Beatles. They became a staple of the independent Estrus Records label, releasing a series of well-regarded albums throughout the 1990s and 2000s, including Wake Up! (1995), Out of It (1996), and Get Something Going! (2000). #powerpop #punkpop #insomniacs #garagepunk taken in Raceway Park Englishtown New Jersey by @skippintv

The Stripes were a German pop/new wave band active from 1979 to 1982. They are most famous for launching the career of legendary German pop icon Nena (Gabriele Susanne Kerner), who served as the group's lead singer before finding global solo fame. The band was formed in Hagen, Germany, by guitarist Rainer Kitzmann. Unlike Nena's later massive German-language hits (like "99 Luftballons"), The Stripes performed and sang exclusively in English. They released one self-titled studio album in 1980 and a handful of singles, including their minor hit "Ecstasy". Alongside Nena, the band featured her boyfriend at the time, Rolf Brendel, on drums. When the band split up in early 1982, Nena and Brendel moved to Berlin to form the vastly successful band Nena. #newwave #powerpop #germanpop #thestripes #nena taken in Hagen, Deutschland by @skippintv

Thees Uhlmann is a highly influential German musician, author, and record label co-founder. Best known as the charismatic frontman of the Hamburg indie-pop band Tomte, he has also established a successful solo career and made a significant mark on the German literary scene. Uhlmann co-founded this prominent indie rock band, leading them through five album releases between 1998 and 2008 before the band entered an ongoing hiatus. They were a core part of the late-wave Hamburger Schule music movement. Launching a solo career in 2011, his self-titled debut and subsequent records ( Junkies und Scientologen) reached top positions in the German and Austrian music charts. His solo work is anchored by staples like "Zum Laichen und Sterben ziehen die Lachse den Fluss hinauf". Uhlmann is a celebrated author. He published a well-received tour diary with the band Tocotronic (Wir könnten Freunde werden), the bestselling 2015 novel Sophia, der Tod und ich (adapted into a feature film), and a popular 2019 autobiographical book detailing his lifelong friendship with the legendary punk rock band Die Toten Hosen. #theesuhlmann #tomte #germanrock #punkrock #dietotenhosen taken in Hamburg, Germany by @skippintv

The Action was a prominent, highly melodic powerpop trio from Northeast Ohio (Stow/Cleveland area) that was active from 1978 to 1984. They are considered a "hidden gem" of the American powerpop explosion that occurred alongside the rise of New Wave. While they never captured major label distribution, they built a massive local following playing legendary Ohio clubs like the Cleveland Agora and even ventured to New York City to gig at iconic venues like CBGB. The Action specialized in a punchy, ultra-melodic 1960s British Invasion style. They took heavy cues from the songwriting sensibilities of The Beatles and early Mod-rock, combining jangling guitars with a high-energy, aggressive live presentation that they compared to the power of The Who. The band's main songwriter and guitarist, Michael Purkhiser, is the younger brother of Erick Lee Purkhiser—better known to the world as Lux Interior, the legendary frontman of the horror-punk band The Cramps. Because of this connection, The Action actually recorded their first "Ohio Demos" for The Cramps back in 1978. Between 1978 and 1982, the trio released three incredibly rare, self-funded 7-inch vinyl singles on their own independent label, Radiogram Records. "She's Got My Heart" (backed with "Till I See You Again") single is fiercely sought after today by global connoisseurs and collectors of rare, deep-cut 70s/80s powerpop. #powerpop #newwave #obscurepunk #theaction taken in Cleveland,Ohio by @skippintv

"Blow Out the Candles" is a banger track by Australian musician Spencer P. Jones featuring The Escape Committee. Released in April 2007 by Laneway Music (and Spooky Records), Fugitive Songs is the sixth solo studio album by Spencer P. Jones. For this project, he was backed by his longtime touring band, The Escape Committee (comprising Helen Cattanach, Phil Gionfriddo, and Andy Moore). Critics described the album as a lower-key, subtle, and seething collection of dirty pub rock, country-punk, and raw "swamp blues". Rather than delivering a full-on sonic assault, Jones utilizes mid-tempo tracks to croon menacing, apocalyptic tales. Spencer P. Jones passed away peacefully on August 21, 2018, at the age of 61 in Melbourne, Victoria. His death was the result of a battle with inoperable liver cancer. Jones had experienced poor health since 2015, which initially left him unable to perform or work. He was formally diagnosed with liver cancer earlier in 2018 before entering palliative care. His passing was heavily mourned across the Australian rock landscape. Widely remembered as a "gentleman of rock 'n' roll", his career spanned over four decades, during which he anchored foundational alternative pub rock and cowpunk bands like Beasts of Bourbon and The Johnnys. His wife, Angie, confirmed his passing, noting that he was finally at peace alongside his late bandmates, Brian Henry Hooper and Ashley Morgan Jones. #spencerpjones #aussierock #cowpunk #pubrock #australianpunk taken in Te Awamutu, New Zealand by @skippintv

Live '84 is a legendary live album by the American hardcore punk band Black Flag, recorded on August 26, 1984, at The Stone in San Francisco, California. Released in December of that year by SST Records (SST 030), it stands as a raw, uncompromising document of the band during one of its most experimental and heaviest eras. The concert captured Black Flag's powerhouse mid-80s four-piece lineup:
• Henry Rollins – Lead vocals
• Greg Ginn – Guitar (and album producer)
• Kira Roessler – Bass
• Bill Stevenson – Drums (famous for his work with the Descendents).
By 1984, Black Flag was actively steering away from standard, lightning-fast hardcore punk toward a sludgy, confrontational blend of heavy metal, noise rock, and avant-garde jazz. The performance at The Stone focused heavily on material from their polarizing 1984 studio albums, My War and Slip It In, blending abrasive slow-tempo breakdowns with chaotic instrumentals. #blackflag #henryrollins #hardcorepunk #punkrock taken in San Francisco, California by @skippintv

Halfway to Crazy is a standout alternative rock track by the Scottish band The Jesus and Mary Chain. Recorded during an era where the Reid brothers stripped the band down to just the two of them, the track relies heavily on a distinct drum machine beat, synth-bass lines, and William Reid's signature distorted, atmospheric guitar riffs. Lyrically, the song is a catchy but dark, hypnotic sonic exploration of deteriorating mental states and instability. Automatic is the third studio and marked a distinct departure from their earlier work, scaling the band down to the core duo of brothers Jim and William Reid. They heavily embraced an electronic backbone, relying on programmed drum machines and synthesized bass lines instead of traditional musicians. This gave the record a more rigid, danceable, and aggressive hard-rock edge compared to the fuzzed-out noise-pop of Psychocandy or the somber moods of Darklands. Though the shift to synthesized rhythm tracks initially divided fans and critics, Automatic produced some of the band's most enduring and recognizable hits. #jesusandmarychain #britpop #shoegaze #noiserock #altrock #indierock taken in East Kilbride by @skippintv

Golden Smog is an American alternative country-rock supergroup formed in the late 1980s in the Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota music scene. Originally started as a loose, tongue-in-cheek cover band project, the collective gradually evolved into a critically acclaimed creative outlet featuring core members from seminal indie-rock and roots-rock bands. Because Golden Smog operates more as a collaborative collective than a traditional band, its lineup has remained fluid over the decades. However, a steady core has anchored almost all of their recordings. Transitioning from their 1992 joke-identity debut EP, On Golden Smog, the band started releasing rich, original Americana music with collaborative songwriting and shared lead vocals. While their appearances are rare due to the members' main musical obligations, Golden Smog continues to play live on selective dates. Fans can catch them performing at specialized destination events like Wilco's Sky Blue Sky Festival in Mexico and the Outlaw Country Cruise. #goldensmog #altcountry #altrock #indierock taken in St. Paul, Minnesota by @skippintv

The band is celebrated for their genre-bending sound, fusing hardcore punk, ska, garage rock, hip-hop, reggae, and drum and bass into a cohesive, aggressive style. Their self-titled debut album became a massive underground success. It featured their signature breakout track "Tall Cans In The Air"—an aggressive rap-rock and punk anthem. The track blends a frantic, high-energy punk tempo with gritty hip-hop verses delivered by Skinhead Rob and Tim Armstrong. The song quickly became a staple of the band's live shows, known for getting crowds rowdy and interactive #transplants #rancid #hiphop #hardcorepunk #punkrock taken in Los Angeles, California by @skippintv
