Hi 👋 I’m Ally! I’ve been a hopeless romantic from a young age. I was a voracious reader growing up and loved adventures with innocent love stories threaded into them. The Mandie Books were favorites in elementary school. In Jr. High, I loved the Christy Miller and Sierra Jenson books. High school began my love of historical fiction and classic literature. And then in college I was an English major. I read so much for my major that I didn’t pick up a book for fun until I had my first baby at 26, long after graduating. Now I read so much that I’m constantly on the hunt for new authors and books to check out. But it can be very difficult to discern which books are appropriate for me to read. It has happened more than once that I begin reading a popular, highly recommended book, only to find open door scenes, explicit content, and excessive swearing. To clarify, I am a Bible-believing Christian. I fully believe that books with explicit content can be just as damaging and addicting as pornography.

So that’s why I started Skip the Spice. I absolutely love romance, sizzling kisses, and swoony characters, but that’s where I draw the line. I don’t want or need to read about things that happen behind closed doors. And I love to share the books I’ve found enjoyable that are free of explicit content, open door scenes and excessive swearing with others who are looking for the same no spice romance books.

Over the last 2.5 years, this account has grown more than I ever thought it would. I’ve gotten to know so many amazing bookstafriends, authors, and readers! And this account has also opened the door for me to get the opportunity to work with some of my favorite authors as a PA & book launch coordinator. I love supporting the incredible authors who write stories of love, friendship, tension, and connection without taking the reader into the bedroom. 💜 The people have spoken! I put up a poll in my stories the other day asking if it would be helpful to have a rating system for intimate content in my book reviews, and the response was an overwhelming yes! So from now on when I post a book review, I’ll indicate the intimacy level of the book. I’ll also continue including other content considerations in my book reviews, such as course language and sensitive topics.

I’m also really grateful to Michelle Pennington for allowing me to use her level chart. It’s such a thorough and organized system, and all credit for it goes to her 💜

Ahhh!! I cannot get over this book! Kate Watson is seriously so talented. I love her writing and the characters she creates. Georgie and Logan are two of my favorites! 🍂I love no-spice books and deals, so this is a win-win! After last year’s $5 deal was a YA fall-themed no-spice book, I kept checking this year starting in August. And then a couple weeks ago I saw @haleysnextchapter post in her stories that this year’s deal was available and no-spice as well! I checked the app to see which of my local stores had it in person and headed right over!

I haven’t read this book yet, but I’ve been told there’s no explicit sexual content, so I can’t wait to read it! I’ll post a review once I’m finished 😊

✨ I always feel encouraged in my faith after reading Latisha’s books, especially after reading Neverending Mercy and now Everlasting Love. She is a master at weaving faith and biblical truth into her characters and their stories. I adored this book just as much as the first and I envy those of you who get to read them both for the first time!
