The Skjold Design Guitars Drakkar is the flagship evolution of modern boutique bass design—a handcrafted instrument engineered for players who demand uncompromising tone, ergonomic precision, and artistic individuality. Designed through decades of refinement by master luthier Pete Skjold, the Drakkar merges advanced acoustic engineering with sculptural aesthetics to create a bass that feels as alive as the music it produces.
Inspired by the legendary Whaleback platform yet refined into a more aggressive and contemporary single-cut architecture, the Drakkar is built around a performance-driven algorithm of resonance, balance, sustain, and harmonic articulation. The body contours are carefully carved for maximum ergonomic comfort, allowing the instrument to naturally integrate with the player’s posture and technique.
Every Drakkar bass is individually handcrafted using premium tonewoods selected for their acoustic responsiveness and tonal complexity. Options such as chambered “Catacomb” construction, obeche or mahogany bodies, quartersawn maple necks, exotic tops, ebony fingerboards, and Skjold Tone Audio electronics combine to produce extraordinary note definition, dynamic range, and low-frequency clarity. by @skjolddesign

The Skjold Design Guitars Firedrake is not merely a bass guitar—it is an engineered sonic weapon forged through ergonomic precision, acoustic intelligence, and boutique craftsmanship. Conceived by master luthier Pete Skjold, the Firedrake embodies a design philosophy where organic curves, harmonic responsiveness, and player-focused architecture converge into a singular high-performance instrument. With its aggressively sculpted silhouette and fluid, rounded contours, the Firedrake appears simultaneously futuristic and primal, as though carved from motion itself. The model is described by Skjold as “the rounded version of the Skjoldslayer,” carrying forward the company’s unmistakable design DNA while introducing a more flowing and ergonomic visual language. by @skjolddesign
