I used my XTREME new tactic to make a doctor’s appointment right after thinking about it and it was SO exhausting but so cool!!! it’s funny how I can simultaneously be the highest functioning project executor and the lowest functioning legal paperwork executor in a room.
.
for all purposes of creativity, fun, learning, and passion projects, I absolutely love living in my brain. but it is not compatible with bureaucracy

wow felting is magic. just got a felting tool, used it to quickly reshape channa’s favorite childhood toy that she had completely beaten up, and added a funny little rooster comb to him while I was at it

MUST FELT MORE NOW 🤪

quickly refinished my big bamboo board that I use as a bread prep surface. I’ve been letting people use him as an all-purpose cutting board the past year and I’m going to ban that going forward, he got really pitted and sad since he isn’t an end-grain board.
.
rehydrated him with a premade blend of food-safe mineral oil and waxes 😊🥰✨

made a new batch of my gratuitously tiny handmade 3”x2-1/8” notebooks for festival gifts! now constructed with 1/32” precision!! 😤 why do i do this shit to myself (jk they are my pride and joy)
.
24 tiny pages, equivalent to nearly one sheet of printer paper. tiny sticky notes in the back in case you need to pass your contact info to someone you meet.

a belated vanity shot i just dug up of the extremely gratuitous functional mini rope dart keychains i spent like five hours calibrating a lasercutter to tinily engrave smol text way past its usual limits, while i had tonsillitis, as swag for @dartdemocracy 2019

after appreciating a nice nature spot, I spent too much time wondering: WHERE IS THE VEIL THIN?? bc I thirst for that liminality and here is the (nature appreciation biased) result
.
the small everyday things I can do to make the veil thinner are nothing new to me but worth re-inventorying: get all up in nature, commune with a big tree, appreciate a sunrise / sunset, turn down the artificial lights, do rituals (ancestral or made-up, serious or silly; they're all good), sit with a body of water, scream into a storm, treat all entities as animate and take nothing for granted
.
if you need Japanese translations I recommend Jisho rather than generic translators. I’ll do my best going top down

I thought it would be fun to make the world’s tiniest chalk bag to use as a tiny one-handed treat bag for kittens but as I was trying to cram it into the sewing machine I realized I had made a huge mistake
.
made entirely from tiny scraps leftover from other projects

baby's first engine DIY!! this doesn't really belong on my arts&crafts instagram?? but I just learned about analog torque wrenches and changed my old spark plugs and I'm kind of having a great time even though I cut open my finger loosening a 130k mile old bolt way deep in the back and had basically zero arm leverage in the horribly narrow passageway fumbling limply for the 4th spark plug
.
not pictured: an hour spent removing the wiper assembly and many parts of the car trim to be able to reach anything, then SWEATILY HOLDING MY BREATH as I drove next to other high speed metal death machines right after replacing a critical engine part 😣😤

on a whim, I made tiny panniers for my sewing machine from a denim scrap and my work flow already feels so much better! ☺️ now, when I flailingly reorient my awkwardly shaped fabrics, they will not knock all the tools and PINS off the table 😤
.
ironically I have been procrastinating on making actual bike panniers

Reese passed away last week after the parting gift of a last good afternoon together. today would have been his 18th birthday. I expect it will take me a long time to adjust to this new reality without my kitty soulmate, although I will always carry him in my heart 🧡
.
he was a kitty of many skills and an exceptional communicator, with a special knack for strolling up to self-proclaimed "not cat people" to ask for head scritches and befriend them until their understanding of cat communication and animals had radically shifted. if knowing Reese (even parasocially) has helped you in some way, I'd love to hear about it.
.
I made a website for him with links to my cat crisis care guide and other resources at reesekitty.com 🐈
.
ways to carry on Reese's legacy: express your appreciation to a kitty (or someone else you care about) today. then keep doing that every day, forever 👍
