Some of the last wildflowers of summer, California fuchsia. They get scrubby by September and are easy to overlook, but they are beautiful when backlit by the setting sun. ☀️

Las Fallas Valencia 1970
Oil on panel 9x14”

This is a new painting in a series I’ve been working on over the years. The series is based on old slide photos my dad took when living in Madrid in 1970. I wasn’t sure whether to tackle this particular photo because it is very dark. But there was always so much beauty and magic in the photo, and intrigue. The crowd of strangers is at the cathedral in Valencia for the offering of the flowers.
