How the World Ends is now available for pre-order from @stanleybarkerbooks. Traveling across North America in preparation for his film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, John Hillcoat took a series of uncanny polaroids of real-world disasters. Hillcoat’s photographs take us from the strip mines of Pennsylvania to New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, from Mount St. Helens to the Oregon coast. In searching for the landscape of McCarthy’s novel, what he found was a country already bearing the marks of catastrophe. “As time passes, the movie inches closer every day to looking like a documentary,” said Hillcoat. Edited and sequenced by @toddhido_,the limited edition book of Hillcoat’s collaged polaroids, published by Stanley Barter Books, will launch at @parisphotofair this November. by @skunk_us

Dorothy Allen-Pickard’s debut feature documentary We Did Not Consent is in production for a 2027 release. The film, which builds on Dorothy’s 2024 short of the same name, tells the story of Jess who discovers that she is one of at least 60 women targeted by undercover police as part of a state-sanctioned operation to infiltrate activist movements. Critically acclaimed director Sterlin Harjo joins Skunk. An Emmy-nominee, Peabody award winner, and MacArthur Fellow, Sterlin Harjo is the creator of The Lowdown, a series starring Ethan Hawke, which will release its highly anticipated second season this October. Comedic or dramatic, Sterlin’s works always take root in a strong sense of place. In The Lowdown, for example, the show’s Tulsa setting is itself a character. “I think that representing a place is a gift,” says Sterlin. “Using environment and place as a character strengthens storytelling.” Before The Lowdown, Harjo co-created the award winning series Reservation Dogs with Taika Waititi. “Reservation Dogs was bigger than any TV show or film that I could ever dream of because it changed culture,” said Harjo. “It’s evidence that storytelling is powerful.” “Skunk approaches things through storytelling,” says Harjo. “Everything that makes me want to make films, Skunk represents that in their work.
