HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical @iamtnyc

Was kinda putting off making this post because of how sad I am that this show is closed (for now!)

But in all seriousness, I will forever be eternally grateful to have had this opportunity to direct such an important show to me; and a show that is important to the world right now.

What gets me really upset about HAIR is the fact that it’s still relevant. But in a strange way, given everything that’s happened recently under the current administration; this show seems MORE relevant today than ever. While directing, I found myself noticing parallels from the 60’s that are starting to creep its way into our contemporary society (if they haven’t already…)

If we as a dying nation don’t learn from our mistakes, we’re doomed to repeat the “Flesh Failures”.

I have the deepest love for my Tribe and Creative Team, thank you for coming on this journey with me.

ʜᴀɪʀ - ᴄᴜʟᴛᴜʀᴀʟ ᴀʀᴛꜱ ᴘʟᴀʏʜᴏᴜꜱᴇ ‘26

Genuinely no words can describe how much of a blessing HAIR has been to me. Many ask me why I’m so obsessed with this show, and to put it simple, it’s a form of escape.

My high school experience was generally horrible, mainly because I’m a Queer Latino artist in a majority white, MAGA, “Christian” community. It’s natural that I was picked on because I stood out from their conservative perspective. Whenever I had a truly awful day, I would lock myself in my room and listen to the 1968 cast recording of HAIR over and over.

To me, this show reminds me that I’m not alone, that I’m not silent, and I’ll never be silenced for being myself; just as long as I speak up for my rights and everyone else who is affected by our government and the hatred oozing from our world.

“Let The Sunshine In” is a simple tune, but it’s beautiful. We live in darkness everyday, but if we just opened our hearts and minds, maybe even listened to what’s going on in our country, we could let the sunshine in.

I’m so thankful to have met the beautiful new friends I made in this Tribe, and I cannot wait to share what I’ve learned with the IAMT Tribe.
