This is personal for most of us, and to be completely honest, it's been extremely hard to create and post anything in this last week.

The last few days have been indredibly difficult and triggering to get through, and I'm sure I'm not alone with this. The rage and sadness is nothing new, but it's excruciating every single time.

So I came here to say it's OK to deal with this however it's best for you. Whether you engage or decide not to. Whether you comment and share or put your phone away on silent.

It's OK.

Your way of dealing with this is valid. Look after yourself the best way you can. We are all Jane Doe. And we understand.

I think a lot of us know this feeling right now.

That particular kind of fear of watching fascism become louder again, watching hatred being normalised, and wondering how far things might go.

Fear for the future. Fear for the people we love. Fear of looking back one day and wishing we had spoken up sooner.

I've heard 'never again' my whole life.

We need to wake up and see that 'never again' is right NOW.

A small painting can't fix anything, but silence isn't the answer either.

The Highlands, the Islands, and the Sea!

I painted my way through Scotland - from Glencoe, to the Isle of Skye, and across the Outer Hebrides. Wild mountains, empty beaches, and changing skies... they all found their way onto these pages in my travel sketchbook. Because sometimes a quick sketch can say much more about a place than a photo 🤍

A little sketch from a tiny cove near the Butt of Lewis, painted with seawater!

It was one of those places that felt completely peaceful and completely wild at the same time. Sunny, windy, flying sand… not exactly ideal painting conditions!

So I kept it quick and loose and just tried to capture the essence of the place rather than every little detail.

I will never tire of this view 😍

Whitley Bay has truly become my home over the last few years, and I will forever be grateful how this place has welcomed me with open arms. The people and community spirit here are just amazing, and whenever I walk along the shore and see the beautiful St Mary's Lighthouse, my heart does a little jump 🤍

I didn't grow up by the sea, but now I can't imagine ever living away from it again!

There's something soothing about painting small, like a whole world is contained just within these few inches. It's safe, and it can be whatever you want it to be.

This little one was inspired by the beautiful coastline South of the Tyne, stretching from County Durham to the North York Moors. It's much rockier and a lot wilder than the sandy Northumbrian beaches we have up here, but just as beautiful.

The puffins have said their goodbyes to the Farne Islands for another year, heading out to spend the winter at sea.

But this little one clearly didn’t get the memo…

He’s stayed behind to keep a little puffin magic here through the winter, perched on his rock by the sea, adding a splash of colour to the quieter months until his feathered friends are ready to return.
