I honestly wish I knew 40 years ago what I know now about nutrition!

For so long, I had this narrative in my head that I couldn’t eat carbohydrates. Fruit makes you fat 🙈

I thought eating less was the answer, and that carbs were something I needed to avoid if I wanted to stay lean.

Oh, how much my mindset has changed! ❤️

🍚 Carbohydrates are not the enemy. They provide energy to fuel our workouts, support recovery, and help replenish our muscle glycogen stores.

🥑 Healthy fats are essential, too! Fats support hormone production, help our bodies absorb vitamins A, D, E and K, support brain and cell health, and provide a source of energy. Foods like avocado, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and oily fish can all be part of a balanced diet.

💪 Protein is essential. It helps repair and build muscle, especially when we’re strength training.

For years, I focused so much on what I shouldn’t eat that I forgot to appreciate what my body actually needs.

Protein builds and repairs. Carbohydrates fuel. Fats support essential functions. All three macronutrients have a purpose, and finding the right balance for YOUR body is what matters. 💪🏼❤️

⚡ Eating enough matters. Consistently under-eating can affect energy, recovery, performance, and overall well-being. More food isn’t automatically better, but eating enough to support your body is so important.

⚖️ Balance beats restriction. Carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats all have a place in a balanced diet. We don’t need to fear entire food groups to reach our goals.

🧠 Your mindset matters, too. Sometimes, the biggest change we need to make isn’t on our plate — it’s in the story we keep telling ourselves about food. by @skyeburgos_

Life Lately 🫶🏻 by @skyeburgos_

Fitness isn’t about punishment.
Nutrition isn’t about restriction.
Both are about building a body that lets you live life well.

For most of my life, I didn’t believe this.

If I ate chocolate or had a meal I thought was “bad,” I’d punish myself with extra exercise. I chased every restrictive diet you could imagine—juicing, fasting, cutting out foods, and constantly starting over on Monday.

I thought being healthy meant being harder on myself.

But at 49 years old, I’ve finally learned that real health isn’t built through guilt or extremes. It’s built through consistency, strength, nourishing your body, and finding a way of eating and moving that you can actually enjoy for life.

Ironically, now that I’ve stopped punishing myself and stopped restricting everything I eat, I’m in the best shape and the best health of my life.

That’s why I no longer exercise because I have to. I exercise because I love what it does for my body and my mind.

I no longer eat well because I’m trying to be “good.” I eat well because I want to feel strong, energized, healthy, and capable.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is to build a body that lets you truly live well.

Everything is temporary 🌿

Change can be intimidating, but it’s the only constant in life. Just like the seasons shift and our bodies evolve, we are in a constant state of transformation.

Instead of fearing change, I’m working on celebrating it! Each moment is unique, a fleeting gift that reminds us to live fully. So, breathe deeply, soak in the now, and embrace the beauty of becoming. 🌱✨
