Proverbs 31:25
“Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”

I’ve thought how I’d bring this to the world so many times and this was the way I found myself healing and loving myself in the most difficult process of my life.

On November 11th, 2024 I was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin’s lymphoma, in short, a cancer in the lymphatic system. They had found two masses; one in my neck on top of a major artery, and a large one in my chest cavity, between my lungs and heart.

Finding out was difficult. I was 21 and I would have to face this head on. Then I thought ahead about the things I would have to go through, sacrifice, and let go of, and it was a hard pill to swallow. In December, I had my first treatment and would have to do twelve in total to complete it.

First and foremost, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t acknowledge God, and the blessing of life he has allowed me to have. There are many people who face this as well who have not been blessed with the grace that he has given me in this process, so my testimony belongs to him.

I am also blessed to say that I am about to be in remission and will be finishing my last session in a couple of weeks. I wanted to share this now, as my goal through this entire journey was to graduate.

I finished off my final semester with a 4.0 and cumulative 3.86, graduating with summa cum laude. I had a 5x 4.0GPA, 8x Deans List, and was an Owen Dodson Awardee by the time I finished my senior year.

I was determined to fight and not let this situation deter me from who I was or what I was going to accomplish. I was able to continue to dance, attend class, have my senior experiences all thanks to my professors and Dean who supported me throughout the entire process.

I also want to acknowledge the support of my family and my added family, my village, taking turns to take me to sessions, giving me strength when I didn’t have it, and facing this with me as this was their journey as well.

If I could end this anyway, I’d say that this was a positive change in my life. I’ve learned my will to fight is beyond what I thought I could do so I’m empowered to share this.

Brick & Mortar

An improvised exploration of joy and what it means to be present. Every thought starts from somewhere. The brick is being built together from a thought, and then joy binds them together.

Brick & Mortar

here’s to my first self-directed project, that I’ve been so scared to share. I figured why not because creating will always be a successful process, because there’s no right answer. In this new space I’m navigating, I figured I couldn’t remember how to be present, a lot of the last two years being a blur. Here’s my response to myself.

thanks DQ (@detray.t) for believing in my creativity, I love you very much.
