I don’t normally share my writing but I wrote a poem that I like that includes a special interest so here we go:

I make it to the crown of the hill,
just me, Sisyphus, and Kate Bush.
He will not stop sighing,
she will not stop singing.

The stone descends again,
an echo of empires collapsing in miniature.
He sighs.
She sings into the wind,
her voice snagging on the spines of trees,
turning their branches into trembling instruments.

I mention the age, its smoke, its famine of hope.
He sighs,
as if exhaling were the only faithful record.
She sings,
as if sound itself might rethread the world.

Others drift past:
Orpheus with his headphones,
rewinding the underworld for the thousandth time;
Ophelia selling rainwater by the cup.
They pass.
He sighs.
She sings.

It becomes liturgy -
a call and an answer no one has asked for:
his weary resignation,
her defiant persistence.
The hill is cathedral,
the sky its cracked dome.

I do not know to which service I belong:
to the weight of breath undone,
or to the stubborn thread of melody.
He sighs,
she sings,
and I am only the silence
left to carry their argument
into the next age. by @skyeemilyx
