ArtCrawl Harlem is proud to welcome back @skyeoadrian (Skye O’Neal Adrian) as a 2025 Boundaries & Connections Artist in Residence on @governorsisland.

Skye O’Neal Adrian is a Queer-identified Artist based in Brooklyn, NYC. On November 10, 1995 Skye was born to parents Karene Wynter and Warren Grant in Kingston & St. Andrew, Jamaica, The West Indies. Inlight of his mother’s untimely passing , he was adopted by his maternal grandparents; Margaret & Lloyd George Wynter who loved and sheltered him until his 18th year. His grandparents and Aunt played a significant role in ambitions and ability to successfully complete secondary level education from one of Jamaica’s most prestigious schools, Wolmer’s Boys School. Due to unreconcilable circumstances, Skye was forced to migrate to New York, USA in Summer 2015 at the age of 17 years old. Although this posed several obstacles and disadvantages, his determination and perseverance lead him to a career visual arts and professional photography . He capitalized on his experiences as a queer black immigrant who forced to navigate the homelessness system as a minor and this provides a unique perspective as an everyday New Yorker. Skye has been professionally practicing photography and making fine art for the past 5 years and in his spare time, creates photo-books, offers a wide variety of homeless system training and technical assistance and free content creation on several social media platforms.

This is my first relief sculpture that I worked on and I’m sharing the first half of the process, which includes, the construction of the faces being morphed into a larger structure on a platform canvas. Stayed tuned for Part 2 which shows how each face was developed and painted.

This is my first acrylic painting that would change my perception of painting; exploring my abstract expressionism and my post-impressionist outlook of experiences in my life.
One of my favorite artists is Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose life and work largely influenced my interest in practicing this medium.

Change is inevitable, especially if this change propelled you somewhere better. It’s been an honor serving as the Chair for the NYCCCoC YAB (November 2016 - December 2019). This presentation was the last in that capacity but I left feeling accomplished and satisfied with the direction that I have taken this board and it’s members.
