seven years later and i still question why you were brought into my life just to be taken out of it so soon. but what i’ve realized is that in the years i got you as my dad i got more laughs, hugs, compliments, support than a little girl could ever imagine. i will forever be grateful for you. and a large part of me will be missing forever. people always say you’re still here and watching over me. but i don’t think they realize i wish you were sitting at the dinner table or even waking me up with the trumpet sound on a speaker one more time. you made me feel like i could do anything. in the last seven years and for the rest of my life i will go through troubles where all i want is my dad. if i could call you today i would have so much to share with you. id tell you all about my classes. id share about all the trips i have planned in the near future. we’d watch steelers football together. and trust me you might have created one of the biggest steelers fans. id bring you a 12 pack of pepsi and some reese’s. you’d probably be angry i don’t like regular pepsi but diet. actually not probably you’re definitely angry. but i know that everything happens for a reason. and i need to have grace and gratitude. gratitude for the 11 wonderful years i got with you. gratitude that i get to have your last name. gratitude that i had a bonus parent who never treated me as any less. i wish i could pick up the phone and bother you like i do mom. i wish i could run into the house for a big bear hug. i wish you could come down and visit me in lawrence. i wish you were walking me down the aisle and meeting my future kids. but instead of wishing for all these things that will never happen i need to be grateful for all the wishes i had come true. i prayed for someone who would eat chinese food with me and make me giggle for days. well i had that and i promise you one day we will get to catch up hopefully eating at the hyvee chinese buffet. sending all the hugs in the world to you today and everyday. seven years and i still struggle daily. seven years and ill still love you forever. by @skylarwintle
