My doctor says I need to socialize and exercise A LOT more, so, I’m trying to prioritize that these days.

Just starting to get back to climbing again. Not anywhere near “in shape” but it’s been good to move. Slowly feeling the rust come off.

‼️Warning‼️
Long, cliche climber rant about rocks and life ahead 😅
.
Life Update: Since receiving my autism diagnosis, things have been very difficult for me. I’ve been experiencing significant cognitive decline in the form of autistic regression - something I understand now to be the impact of a lifetime of unmanaged autistic burnout. Recovery from burnout has been difficult and many days I wake up feeling like I’ll never feel normal again. Sorry, dramatic, I know 😅
.
During this time, I discovered quickly that climbing is extremely regulating for me. It was the only thing really that has helped me feel like myself - like I have a life to recover back to.
.
The Boulder: So, that brings me to this problem. This boulder is one of the longest incomplete projects in MB, and has always been improbable for me at best. At some point though, the notion of climbing this problem got stuck in my head. I ultimately found working on this boulder to be a safe haven. A place where I can be alone with my thoughts, and find resonance in my own movements and ways of being without external standards and pressures.
.
It was a long fight, but today, I managed to finally overcome this challenge. In many ways this process has been reflective of the life journey I’m on. And so, it gives me hope that it’ll be worth it to keep fighting.
.
Regarding the grade - I’m not 100% sure. This was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever climbed, but I’ve also not climbed any outdoor V10s (only MB benchmarks), or any 11s. In the end, I settled on 10/11 based on my experience and honest best guess, and to also hopefully inspire others to come try and earn the downgrade 🙏🏽

Great problem from a recent set I really enjoyed. While I do intend to go back and finish this up clean, I’m not sure I’ll make it back before it’s reset (currently on a rest / recovery week), so I decided why not share for this weeks #failfriday with @rungne_official
.
A big focus for me this year is to spend less time worrying about grades, and spend more time and energy enjoying the things that brought me to climbing in the first place. Finding joy in the process, even if the outcome doesn’t always yield what you’d hoped for.
.
The road to success is paved in failure, so it’s just another brick in the road on this journey of mine. Despite a rough start to the year, I’m slowly getting back in shape and stoke is building for my trip to Squamish in May!

I’m back!
.
It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, because truthfully I’ve been procrastinating on training and only in the last couple weeks have gotten back into a consistent schedule. During that period however I was lucky enough to be able to try out and review @rungne_official’s newest product, the ‘Gripmaster Sleeves’ - a compression sleeve aimed at climbers.
.
Having never used compression sleeves in any capacity before, I didn’t know what to expect! I was surprised however to find that I definitely felt consistently less pumped, and had more stamina in my forearms and fingers than expected during sessions (especially while out of peak season shape!). They stayed in place well, fit well and are comfortable. While I wouldn’t call them a magic bullet for V11, I definitely see these having a place in my toolkit moving forward on my #Roadto8A.

We’re back!
.
It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, but we’re back at the grind and feeling ready to hustle towards the last leg of my #Roadto8A journey.
.
2024 was a year of intense introspection, personal growth and reflection for me. Learning to better balance my ambitions with my humanity, finding better ways to navigate my relationships and discovering who it is I really want to be in these next chapters of my life, were a few central themes. That effort took a lot of attention away from my climbing last year, and facing those realities in and of itself was at times really difficult. But they say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and as corny as that phrase can be I feel that we all know it to be true from our own unique perspectives in one way or another.
.
Anyways, all this yapping aside the point is I’m back at it and feeling ready to work. While I definitely have some holiday rust to shake off, we’re on our way and so far so good 😎👍🏽 Mostly worked on volume, cleaning up some moderate problems, but managed to snag this in the process relatively quickly. Great problem, fun moves!

After 4 years in a row returning to Squamish, it’s starting to feel like a home away from home for Amanda and I, so it was extra special that we got to enjoy it together with just the two of us this year. The weather was a little chilly but perfect for climbing, with the vast majority of the boulders I was interested in staying dry the entire trip. I likely did too much climbing actually, as we got many more dry days last minute than the forecast called for - and I couldn’t waste them not knowing how the remainder of the forecasted rainy days would go 😂😅
.
Climbing wise, I unfortunately did not get any of my major targets done, but I’m still relatively happy with my performance. For the first time I stepped up to make of these monolithic blocs and felt like I had a fighting chance. In isolation I managed to do all of the moves for each of them (save a couple), and completed many of the hardest sequences / links. In the end it was a bit ambitious to hope for 3 V10’s and 2 V9’s in 7 days - but I learned a lot and am feeling good about coming back to finish up these projects. That said, I did complete 2 V7’s in my downtime, so I didn’t walk away completely empty handed on that front 😂👍🏽
.
All in all it was a great trip, and I made some great memories while having a ton of fun in a place I truly love. Can’t wait to go back, and next time I’ll be stronger!
.
