When approaching this redesign, the objective wasn't to "fix" a bad logo. It was to explore how considered design decisions can influence perception, strengthen positioning and better connect with a target audience. In this latest Kiwi Logo Rescue, I break down my redesign for Spice Guru and explain the thinking behind each decision - from typography and hierarchy to spacing, balance and overall brand perception. Branding is rarely about making something look better for the sake of it. It's about creating an identity that communicates the right message to the right people. Kiwi Logo Rescue EP.09 - MacEll Electrical ⚡ This one was about turning a familiar electrical identity into something that feels sharper, more distinctive and built to work as a complete brand. For MacEll Electrical, I wanted to retain the energy behind the name while creating a visual system with far more flexibility - from the core identity and brandmark through to vehicles, signage, print and digital applications. The result is bold, technical and unmistakably MacELL. Same business. Stronger connection. Good Connections. Every Time. Projects like this are exactly why I love what I do. It was a real honor to be involved in the Glasshouse project and to be invited along to celebrate its opening night. The last time I walked through those doors, it was little more than a construction site and a shared vision. Walking back in to see it completely transformed honestly blew me away. The attention to detail. The atmosphere. The craftsmanship. My partner and I were lucky enough to sample a number of the dishes on opening night, and honestly, every single one was exceptional. The level of craftsmanship, attention to detail and culinary finesse on display was genuinely impressive. I genuinely believe every business owner could take inspiration from the level of care, pride and attention to detail that's gone into this project. Every decision feels intentional, and it shows. Take note, Whanganui... This is what happens when passionate local businesses come together with a shared vision. We were incredibly proud to contribute by creating the complete brand identity for Glasshouse - A logo system and visual identity designed to reflect the same level of quality, care and attention to detail found throughout the entire experience. A huge congratulations to Carl and every single business involved in bringing this vision to life. From the architects, builders and trades, to the suppliers, designers and everyone working behind the scenes - you've created something truly special. I have no doubt Glasshouse will become a destination our city can be proud of. Congratulations again, and thank you for allowing SkyPotion Brand Design to be part of the journey. Hard work isn't enough anymore. That's a difficult thing to admit... But every month another local business closes its doors. As a business owner myself, I know exactly how much goes into building something from the ground up. Over the last six years, I've had the privilege of working alongside some incredible Kiwi business owners. People who genuinely care. People who work ridiculously hard. People who have built businesses they should be proud of. Over the last six years, I've realised something that took me a long time to understand... Being good at what you do isn't always enough. Customers can't experience your service until they've chosen you. So they judge everything they can see instead. A restaurant can serve incredible food... ...but if it looks run down from the outside, people might never walk through the door. A tradesperson could be the best in town... ...but if their website looks like it hasn't been updated since 2012, people will assume their business hasn't either. People don't buy what they haven't experienced yet. I've been seeing a lot of my fave designers sharing their work on @logoarchive recently, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed seeing the range of styles and approaches - so I thought I’d jump on board. I’m Jace from @skypotionstudio in New Zealand. These are a selection of logos and brand marks I’ve designed over the years - a mix of old and new work, across many different industries and stages of my process. I’ll be honest, I did hesitate to post this. There’s a lot of talent in this space, and it’s hard not to feel like you’re placing your work alongside people who are operating at a very high level. But at the same time, that’s also what makes this kind of community worth being part of - it pushes you, and it reminds you there’s always so much more to learn. What I’ve appreciated most about this trend is seeing how, even within the same discipline, every designer brings their own perspective and visual language. There are shared influences, but the output still feels distinctly personal to each person. It’s been genuinely inspiring to see.
