It’s doesn’t all have to be perfect blue skies, sometimes the grey moody ones give you a great flying experience especially when the vultures come out to play. Thanks to @marcusdaniellus for company on some of the hike and @cottydale for company in the air. by @skytribe

Photographing the new @skywalkparagliders Chili 6 on the Dent de Crolles - always a special place to fly. Amazed how the camera picked up the birds on the cliffs.

@coupeicare is over for another year and it was another spectacular one celebrating all things free-flight.

I enjoyed moments of joy of catching up with friends from around the world, trying out new wings at the testival, taking in the stunning atmosphere and views on an early morning hike-and-fly with the crew and getting inspired by all the adventures and flying going on.

Emotions though were mixed as we also experienced the darker side of our sport when two of our free-flying family lost their lives in an accident on Sunday. Thoughts are with the organisers, the volunteers and of course the family and friends of Rhal and Nadège. taken in Saint-Hilaire-du-Touvet by @skytribe

🇫🇷 1,18 point.

The countdown is on for the 27th FAI World Glider Aerobatic Championship and 15th FAI World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championship!

👉🏼 From 2-12 September 2026, the world’s leading glider aerobatic pilots will gather at Fayence-Tourrettes Airfield in Fayence, France 🇫🇷

Glider aerobatics combines precision flying with careful energy management. Once released from the tow aircraft, pilots complete their aerobatic sequences without engine power, using only the altitude and speed available to them.

📅 The road to the championships:

👉🏼 20-28 August: Unofficial training
👉🏼 29 August-1 September: Official training
👉🏼 2 September: Opening Ceremony
👉🏼 3-11 September: Competition flights
👉🏼 12 September: Awards & Closing Ceremony

The championships are organised under the auspices of the Fédération Française de Vol en Planeur, with AAPCA - Les planeurs du Pays de Fayence as operational organiser.

We’ll be covering the event throughout the championships on FAI social channels. 👀🔥

Yesterday morning. Absolutely perfect 👌 hike and fly conditions. Almost a nip of autumn in the air for a slightly cooler hike, and a perfect breeze on launch.
A few hours later the balcony chairs were being hurled into the wall and there were🌪️ further west!

Is it for you? The @nearbirds Apex is a lightweight pod harness built for hike-and-fly racing and vol-bivouac adventures. Cross Country's Marcus King took it flying in the south of France to see how it feels on the ground – and in the air. Watch in full at youtube.com/xcmag by @skytribe
