Out Now !
I am immensely excited to finally share my first book with you. It has been a long and intense process of bringing this publication to life and I am forever grateful for everyone who supported me during the last two years. To me this book is a milestone, as it shows how I became a photographer & a member of a family. In 2004 my brother Mats was born, and in 2008 my brother Jonah. It was around that time, while I was still a teenager, when I picked up a camera and started to experiment with it. The camera was a great tool for keeping enough distance, but also coming closer, taking a step towards these bright & fascinating human beings.

As we grew older together, Mats developed a severe form of scoliosis, which led from wearing a corset, to two major surgeries and the stiffening of his spine. The camera had already been rooted in our relationship, so we took the opportunity to photograph before and after these surgeries, and made these fierce moments part of a beautiful, but painful experience. While the attention lay on Mats, Jonah found his own ways of appearing and disappearing into the frame. It is a miracle how we all just can not remember making a lot of these photographs.
Thank you Mats and Jonah, for letting me do this, with all your patience and understanding.

The book is a compact embossed hardcover containing 120 pages with 68 b&w and color images and a text by Linda Baumgartner translated to English with a beautiful design by @louismontez and cover illustration by Karim Boumjimar, printed on natural uncoated Munken paper by the exceptional monks at @narayanapress

The book will be launched in Copenhagen on the 14th of June 2024 at @nw_gallery_cph and in Vienna on the 19th of June 2024 at @softcover.shop + more TBA in Hamburg, Stockholm and Berlin. For now the book is available online at @disko_bay_books website with worldwide shipping and hopefully in your favorite bookshop real soon. by @slagmans

“...rather than having to think, always and endlessly, what else there could be, we sometimes seem to connect with a layer in our existence that simply wants the things of the world close to our skin.”

Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht quoted by @alanrh in his text "Besides Meaning" / accompanying my show 'Bilder' at @sulfurateljeforening

Come join us for a conversation about Photography, Family and Closeness. This Saturday, the 20th of September, at 4PM at @sulfurateljeforening.

I am more than happy to announce that @majadaniels is going to talk with me about my recent book 'Looking at My Brother', the work with my family's archive and my most recent image makings that I have been working on since I moved to Sweden three years ago.

Maja Daniels is a Swedish photographer and artist whose work combines sociology, archival material and film. Her acclaimed photo book 'Elf Dalia' (MACK, 2019) explores myth, memory, language and place. Her work has been exhibited widely.

Free and open to anyone.
