Did you know that the phrase “Dog Days of Summer” has nothing to do with dogs? It refers to the star Sirius, also called the “Dog Star” and its 40-day window when it is at its brightest… back in the day people thought it emitted extra heat adding to the sun, making that part of the year extra hot.
