— 🇬🇧 One of the first things @slawnmade tells us when we start talking immediately sets the tone for the direction this interview will take: “I’m not an artist.” We’re upstairs in his studio, surrounded by the eyes from his paintings watching us. And as Slawn tells us his story, he starts working on a new piece, using charcoal directly on the canvas. He tells us how he became an artist without ever trying to be one, how he’s fighting against the word “famous,” and how he keeps himself away from any definition except one: hustler. Watch the full interview now on YouTube. Link in stories. Slawn is one of the protagonists of the new print issue of @outpump, out on September 28. For the first time, in an international edition. – 🇬🇧 The man everyone knows as @olaoluslawn grew up in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to London in 2018 with no plan other than to skate and see where life would take him. Back then, he was just Olaolu, and even today, he insists those close to him don’t call him Slawn. “If you asked me what happened over the last six years of my life, I’d say I came to London and started painting.” Since, Slawn has built a huge following through his art, modelling, and collaborations with brands and creatives. Recently, we’ve seen him everywhere: from footwear and apparel collabs with Nike, to 12 Rolex watches designed with 12 different profiles, to F1 cars with Racing Bulls, and even designing the BRIT Awards trophy as the youngest to ever do so. And yet, being an “artist” was never his goal. It simply happened. Slawn is one of the faces featured in the new print issue of @outpump, out September 28. For the first time, in an international edition.
