The year is 1999. You’ve got the Buffy the Vampire Slayer soundtrack on repeat, “Temptation Waits” is blasting through your chunky CD player. You’re sprawled on your bedroom floor, surrounded by Teen People, TV Hits and Buffy magazines, carefully cutting out every photo of Buffy and Angel for your wall collage.

Your cork board is covered in clippings. Your VHS tape of “Becoming Part 2” is worn from rewinding that scene. You pause only to write a new entry in your glitter gel pen-filled journal about how no one will ever love each other like they do. Life is good. 🖤

A vampire in love with a Slayer. It’s rather poetic, in a maudlin sort of way.

In Buffy the Vampire Slayer S1E7 Angel, a jealous Darla mocks Angel for being in love with Buffy, him a vampire, her a Slayer.

In the next season, Buffy does exactly what Darla foreshadows. She understands Angel, she looks at his face—his true vampire face—and she kisses him, passionately.

For Angel, this moment is overwhelming. The script notes that nobody has ever touched him like this. His curse begins to lessen the more time he spends with Buffy, as he feels her love for him.

And for Buffy, she accepts Angel completely—the demon, the man—and chooses all of him.

Naked and shivering, virtually mad, something huddles there — something fresh out of hell — his own hand inches away from the ring: Angel.

When you kiss me I wanna die.

(There is a cookie for anyone that can find the very subtle link between a line in this scene and a line in this song 🍪)
