BILLE KINGDOM While the rest of Nigeria rests, in Ijaw Bille Kingdom, Rivers State, the rivers themselves cannot. BILLE KINGDOM a work of dance, sound, and spoken word that bears witness to this crisis — a climate crisis written on Ijaw bodies first.We center the Ijaw worldview: The sea, the rivers, the Goddess are all bleeding. In Ijaw cosmology, water is not a resource. It is ancestor. It is archive. It is the Goddess herself. When water is poisoned by spills and fire, when wetlands flood or burn from climate collapse and extraction, culture is poisoned too. When the earth burns, ancestry burns with it.Climate change here is not abstract.It is: 1. Heat + Fire: Rising temperatures and illegal refining set rivers ablaze. The water catches what the sky is holding.2. Loss + Migration: Changing tides, flooded homes, and dead fisheries push Ijaw people off land their grandmothers named.3. Silence + Erasure: Global climate conversations forget riverine communities. Policy maps look away while Bille burns.This is Ijaw Cultural Revolution in action: we see the climate crisis, we remember who the water is, and we spark conversation through the body. Not documentation. Invocation.1. Water as Memory / Climate as Wound: The rivers are archives. When they catch fire or flood from climate collapse, history catches fire.2. Extraction as Climate Violence: Global extraction fuels both carbon emissions and local fires. The Goddess bleeds twice: from oil and from heat.3. Return as Climate Resistance: _KEMBILI_ — we return to the water, to the ancestors, to the demand for climate justice and accountability. To refuse displacement.We move audiences from sleep to witness. We put Bille Kingdom on the cultural and climate map when policy maps look away. We insist: culture cannot live without clean water, and water cannot live without climate justice.It is not just remembrance. It is return. Meet Taiye & Kehinde Yeri — aka The Slay Twins. Identical twins from Lagos. Multidisciplinary artists, curators, cultural innovators. They live to use dance as a tool for social impact, cultural awareness, and real change.Raised in Lagos, they found dance young and built something new — a bold mix of contemporary, Naija-fusion, and improv that speaks to climate change, mental health, and cultural truth.
