I love when a garment I’ve just acquired for my collection comes along and challenges me. And that’s exactly the case with this denim chore jacket. At first glance, I would date it to around the 1920s. The cut, the shape of the pockets, all of it feels very typical of railroad / work jackets from that era. But two elements bring a real mystery to this piece: the buttons and the selvedge. The buttons are marked “Flecha Roja.” I don’t know of any American brand by that name, which naturally makes me think it could perhaps be… Mexican ! I asked my Italian friend @sledhunter32 for advice. He lives in Mexico and has specialized in antique Mexican denim. And it turns out there actually was a Mexican workwear brand called Flecha Roja, apparently sometime around the 1930s, although no exact dates have been found yet. Mexico produced quite a lot of very high-quality denim in the early 20th century. Some brands even presented themselves as “rivals to Levi’s and Lee.” I’m going to have to dig much deeper into this subject, because it’s an incredibly interesting part of the story that I’ve never really explored before. Then there’s the selvedge. I had never seen a tricolor selvedge before. White, red, and light blue. So I’m calling on the denim and selvedge experts out there: have you ever seen something like this? And if so, on what fabric exactly? A killer day for me !! Managed to find my old 42 FL OG paint Knucklehead plus a bunch of other awesome bikes in Italy after 30 years!! Indians , Henderson 4cyl ,Guzzis ,a very rare 1971 MV Augusta ,Harleys , Nortons etc I've got this this Knuckle in my 20s in Florida ,i knew what was good since a young age ! Sold It ages ago since ive moved out from Italy and lived in different continents all my life but i never forgot that first kick starting beauty Current owner Is 76 years young now,he wont sell anything and actually still rides It a lot Some things are just timeless !! by @sledhunter32
