🎂 It's my birthday and I'll post if I want to~ 🎈

New level 31 version of my meet the artist! This year I went for a portrait trying to balance realism & stylism. Scroll for a comparison to my reference!

A few fun facts to note:

This is my D&D dice bag! I made it ages ago out of a few remnants & a very rough embroidered piece (which is now the base). I did not do any of this with pressed seams or ANY of the things I know how to do now 😂

The black part at the top was because I realized the silver & gold fabric was too short, so I added the top. And the ribbon I used to close it is WAY too long.

I was considering making myself an even bigger dice bag (because believe me I have more dice than what fits in this one) but I just couldn't give it up.

Suffering through metallic thread to make the cute little stars scattered around... Maybe it's sentimentality... But I'll use it until it falls apart 💜 ✨

Another fun fact: I own every pin on the bag EXCEPT one. If you get it right I'll give you a cookie.

Final fun fact for now: yes, that is my ring. I'm getting married on FRIDAY~ I won't be posting anything about that here for my future wife's privacy ✨ 💍 ✨

Sketchbook dump~

Thank you to @dml.arts for letting me know about that creator. Very disappointed to see someone who grew to relative fame BECAUSE of artists not having the empathy or understanding to show support for them when popular.

Also... Did I just do FANART? TWICE?? Yeah I heard about the #criticalrole wedding game and was having fun scrolling reference images when I saw the kiss 💋 so have a doodle that's... Smashed to the bottom of the page 😔 that's what happens when you think it'll just be a quick sketch!

Also ESSEK THEYLESS MY BELOVED NEUTRAL EVIL WIZARD (spoilers for folks who have somehow not been spoiled on the storyline). This one was a "I'm just gonna do what I want to" doodle and that means... NO HAND 😆

Ailing is my new D&D PC and she's great~~ we're in fantasy Russia so a wintertime outfit is in order. And funnily enough: the coldest person in the game is our TABAXI who is FLUFFY. And the person resisting the cold the best? Jaga, who still refuses to wear a shirt. Just an open coat!

Happy Pride!!! Scroll for close up & steps ✨

So I've been trying for a few years to draw something with all of my OCs for pride. I know I tried in 2024 And 2025 (though I can't seem to find where I stuck the WIPs).

So this time I didn't wait! Once I remembered the idea, I tried to keep on that wave of motivation and work towards the end goal

Also:

Rare lineart picture!

Sometimes I *know* that painting it will stress me out, since I acknowledge that it takes significantly longer than blocking in some quick shadows and highlights.

But although I do tend to go for painting over lineart... I sometimes want to test my mettle and see how much of it I can still do

Enough I'd say!

From left to right:

Alvaro ✨🪄 🧙 he's a D&D wizard NPC who is kinda low-key gay. In campaign and story, he's focused on helping his younger sister whom he ran away with (to pursue a cure for her Fantasy Ice Disease). So in game, there's no real avenue to showcasing his queerness. We discussed limits & boundaries in a session 0 and my group isn't looking for table romance. So nobody flirts (despite them saying one of the NPCs came across as flirtatious)...

Alleyn 🗡️🛡️ is gender fluid !! I'm not sure what I'd qualify Alleyn/Alanna's sexuality as other than: hot for Mina. ;) Though she's based on Alanna from Tamora Pierce's Lioness Quartet, I'd say demi & bi. He's hot for Mina even when she's a lady, yk?

Ailing is bi! So fun fact: in campaign we accidentally fully waltzed into the Feywilds. Look. When you're told, "You hear music off in the forest..." At some point you've GOT to push the big red button the DM has just set in front of you. And when we got to an inn, we were told to gossip and tell sensational stories for our food. Ok! On the spot I decided that, despite Ailing growing up in a remote monastery, it'd be funnier and more interesting if the monks and nuns who raised her had salacious interpersonal drama. Which led me to realize that all of them were sort of her parents... And so she has *so many* moms and dads. And yes... All of them are queer.

I'm eepy and need to go to bed.

I'm done with the (main) Fungeoneers!!

This is Yortle the Tortle, and I am VERY proud of my improvements!!

Yortle's are.... Not easy for me to draw so I will admit... I drew him as infrequently as possible.

Which is a shame cause he's cool!!

The main difference is that Yortle.... Is a lot less medieval and a lot more emo than his 2023 design! In the game we reference a lot of emo music and call it his, and I wanted to make sure he actually LOOKED like that

I could just add a bit of accessories and makeup...

And I used the ribbon from his hat like some hair. I felt that was mildly creative!!

I felt the red would work best for the new color scheme and so I cheated his body color a bit more yellow to compensate.

I think he turned out well!!

Hey look... Another Fungeoneer!!! Scroll for close ups & a time lapse of the painting!

Velvet is one of the PCs that I am MOST proud of her redesign and subsequent glow up!!

Her "truths" (aka: the gist as I got it from her player) was that she's got a false unicorn horn as a nod to her Fae warlock patron, and that Pink Sparkly Unicorns Dancing on Rainbows should be playing in my mind as I draw her 😆

(Ok maybe that last one is just me)

But!! Disney esque ingénue vibes aside, I feel like I GET her more now and so she's a lot less basic and flat.

Velvet DOES care deeply about the animals (re: Pokémon) she's trying to rescue in the Dungeon of the Mad Mage... But she's also unrelentingly positive and happy and a breath of fresh air compared to a few other angsty characters

(I am looking in a mirror.)

Partly because I wanted to separate Velvet's design from Minako's (who's outfit is the pinkish side of purple), I pulled Velvet into a warmer, sunset direction. 🌇

I was listening to a lot of @historyhit while designing so that's probably why I pushed it more in a cartridge pleats & medieval princess vibes direction.

Also!! We (the other players) thought Puff was a pseudodragon but he's actually a fairy dragon. I first drew him & Shaymin for a group poster style piece about a year ago.

It's miss Minako Tsukino!! She's changed a lot >> notes for all the pics!

Second of the Fungeoneers to be completely redesigned!!

I'm so proud of how she turned out mainly for this reason: the old design was WAY off the mark in terms of vibes! It looks OK, and the player C was very nice about it when we chatted about the revamp.

But yeah... We needed an overhaul!!

I'm so happy with the flow of this!!! I absolutely love flowing fabrics, and I got to paint the contrast between the pleated hakama and the furisode style sleeves of the upper shirt. Plus... A bit of fur!

I've been drawing Mina as a red fox but she's more of a silver fox! 🦊 So we pulled the color scheme further into cool toned purples as opposed to warmer pinks.

The design was loosely inspired by miko, Shinto shrine maidens, from Japan. I've met some (they're quite excited if they want to learn English phrases) and I've worn hakama with a furisode before!

We also pulled from a few modern reimaginings of Miko from current Japanese media properties. The shoulder gap and the ribbons at the sleeves mirror older styles of court dress, which we've taken inspo from.

I also doodled an idea with what she does with her longer bangs/fringe! I originally thought that the jellyfish style would be cute, since we were torn between long & short hairstyles.

But for the formal attire, I pulled influence from Miko hair techniques that use paper and bands to wrap the hair back in a low ponytail for events. From my experience exploring the Hokuriku scene, it may not be a thing done for everyday wear...? Anyone who knows more please reach out! The Miko I saw at local shrines usually had a normal hairband.

Minako has devoted herself to ascetic minimalism, so she owns very little. She actually doesn't take a cut of the Fungeoneers' loot, usually! But I did want to give her some way to hold onto precious items, and inrō and a pouch seemed like a fun thing to do!

Inrō are boxes that are sort of laced up on the sides. From the museum examples, it looks like there's a cord running up each corner that is collected at the top. A bead or finding is used to tighten the cords so the nesting box compartments st by @sleeepydraws

The twins, Alleyn/Alanna and Thom!!

So I had never fully designed Thom (except for 1 old piece that was sort of a joke). So I worked backwards from what I had originally drawn of Alleyn in 2023 and collabed with our beloved DM on more ideas!

So! Originally, Thom made a magic item for Alanna so she could pass for a guy (Alleyn) and learn knightly duties.

The original design for Alleyn focused on the idea of that internalization & desire to pass above all. He also didn't want to stand out much, so his pose was notably stiff. (Also: it's 3 years old)

Alanna of now is GROWING more comfortable in herself OUTSIDE OF just this "perfect knight nothing to see here" persona. She cut her hair, told some of her party members, and is figuring out her own gender fluidity.

So I drew from the original Alleyn design to start building Thom's basic points. Namely: the hair, and that they're supposedly the same height. (Except the DM and I think it's VERY funny if Thom is now a single cm taller. JUUUUUUST a bit.

Thom was a quick build actually!! I wanted something that read militaristic (DM's description), a uniform, but a bit magical still. So I used FMA as a bit of a reference & slapped a cloak on him.

I also wanted a nod to who he's learning from at Dwoemercore.

The DM suggested he have a medal for each of his teachers, but I thought that putting the lich literally at his throat would be fun. I wanted it to look sort of like it's choking/stifling him, since. Well.

That IS what's happening!

The eye is a nod to the Mad Mage's obsession with watching everyone.

And the DM suggested some basic scales for the Hags he had an 'internship' with.

Let's just say that floor 3 in our campaign is really.... Unique.

SPEAKING of the lich painting!

It's kinda old but this is EVERYTHING I had on Thom at the time.

Despite handing the character to my DM, I let them run wild with it. And look what she's doing to me!! Torturing me with my own character's brother... Like I asked her to?!!

Inconceivable!!

Alanna already got a bit of a redesign when I got new armor!

Let's just say an NPC we hate was trying to accomplish something, and I sat Alanna on a throne, got se by @sleeepydraws

Fungeoneers redesign time!! (Each image has more notes so look onwards if ye so dare!)

Last time I did full body paintings for the Fungeoneers, it was 2023, I'd recently moved back from Japan, and I was using Krita!

Which... I still love! It will always have a clear place in my heart as the program that helped me get back into drawing digital art.

But more importantly... The characters!!

The impetus for the redesign is this: we're gonna switch back to the Dungeon of the Mad Mage soon!

We've been playing the Hags All The Way Down campaign while we were giving our Dungeon DM time to finish a master's degree and rest.

And this is a gift to our Hags DM for all of her beautiful home brewing AND a birthday! Happy birthday, L :)

Will discuss more redesign things as you go between images, so explore to your heart's content!

I'm really proud of how this turned out~~ I had to fight a few anatomy crimes to make it look good (and if I were a cleaner artist with my layers, I'd probably move the shield for example) but!!! I love it. :)

Over time her braid has gotten a lot less specifically defined and her armor has gotten more intense.

We decided to upgrade the latter in the image because we FINALLY made our way back to the town above the Dungeon to get her full plate armor!! ... The Dungeon spat us out like, six months in the wrong direction but! Whatever.

So this is how we imagined the upgrade to go.

L also wanted to change the color scheme from a monochromatic look to one with silvers and blues, which was a major difference, palette wise!

Also!! The symbol at the back is one the DM & I worked on. We found this cog / wheel design someone else had done that was a nod to the "fast travel" portal system in the dungeon. We really liked that as an element, so I used that PLUS made the center a nod to the Mad Mage's obsession with watching the party.

👁️ It's not super noticable but the loops of the portals combine in the center to sketch out an eye design. But cause it's the center... That's where the characters go! 😂

Soon it'll be more visible when I do the lineup shot of all of them. :)

I wanted to try drawing Soren looking ruggedly handsome and... Well...

Your *cough* anatomy practices inspired me!

Had fun doing a looser render inspired by a Leyendecker portrait!! I played with a couple new brushes that I very much enjoy ~~

I decided not to do a hand (what would he hold....????) but to instead imply the shoulders with the jegative space around the crystals!! 🔮 ✨

Sketchbook check for no. 35!!

This one was a doodle using a pose reference that proceeded to get more and more finished

So I slapped a color onto the background and called it done before I ruined it!!

So.... I made a mistake~~

It's actually # 35 based on start date. I'd forgotten a sketchbook that I use for travel. So there's an itty bitty asterisk in the corner lol

I could've used some of my acrylics to paint over it but I... Didn't think of that at the time and it's done!! I cannot keep going back to fix EVERYTHING now can I?

Another doodle that turned out to be a favorite.

Apparently Alleyn... Looked like she'd be. Well. Doing something more risque to/with Mina.

Also I KEEP FORGETTING MINA'S TAILS.

She has 3. And yet I forget them all the time 😂

In my defense, this time it was because the page was too narrow for all of them to be in frame.

I also drew this with a color changing pencil and it went well! It reduces perfection but I can use the yellows to block shapes without them being very readable.

@aknightsrepose recommended I practice heads and skulls for good anatomy work... And lent me a reference for it!! I did most of them before getting sidetracked by @adorkastock 's #junedraweverything which was great practice as always

I have this red&blue Milan branded pencil that I ADORE but will have to ration now that both are getting quite short.

I do have extender/holders tho so I'm excited to use them until both ends are almost gone.

... So I just love them and I want them to be cozy.

Is this perfect? No.

But it's fun, good practice, and from a pretty, old movie.

Old movies have SO much yearning.

More skull practice mixed with some #witchhatatelierfanart technically with the Iguin!! And some Pinterest doodles, again in that Milan red/blue pencil.

A thing for comparing how my 3 current OCs (minus Keela but this was before her so shhhh) smile.

I think it's helpful characterization and good practice for different nose, eye, eyebrow, lip, and head shapes!!

For my DTIYS winner .... @larkscribbles !!

I chose Hotspur, because a lady knight (ie: a lady in armor) has ALWAYS been my bread, my butter, and my jam.

I also wanted to try showing off the blade, since it's so rad. The glow from it inspired me to try a different lighting source and vibe than I'm used to, but I'm happy with the results!

While I didn't get as much done for art fight as I wanted to, what with work and repainting a deck and stairs on my in laws house... I did alright!

And I am... So tired

I enjoyed the mass attacks for some interpersonal fun but I burned out VERY quickly. I think next time I'll do something like this: focus on the painting and character and less on recreating the wheel.

But I do like the idea of a theme... Like a slowly filling wall of portraits? I can still do some interactions... >=}

(Also baby's first mass attacks really nerfed my ratio?? Like yes I have a bad ratio this year IF you ONLY count the attacks not the characters I attack yk...???)

My wife got to see the updates of it. Lemme tell you. When she Oohs and Aahs and picks out something that strikes her in particular?

Catnip.

I'm the golden retriever of the two of us but... It's catnip to me!!

My second mass attack for #artfight t !!

This time the conceit was a portrait wall so I could go us on painting. Another goal was to do a variety of head angles and play up different face shapes.

Ya girl does enjoy some good practice!
