POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Took me awhile to finish this one but I completely get the hype over this book. That was one heck of a world building strategy- the details and intricacy of the characters and their connections to one another. If I’m being completely honest, the book lost me somewhere 25-40% in because of the number of characters and their roles, I was having such a hard time establishing who’s who and what was their agenda. On hindsight it might have helped looking up the character map. This affected my reading experience but thank goodness I soldiered on because once we got passed the 65-70% mark, things got wild and fast paced with scrumptious dialogue and; everything I signed up for. One last thought - I need to know when is the sequel out!!!

The NightBlood Prince
- Molly X. Chang

I’m definitely in my very Chinese era right now, besides getting into more c-drama I’ve been reaching for more and more Chinese books about palace politics, princes, mythology and magic. This book is my 3rd consecutive read, after The Poet Empress (loveddd it) and A Song To Drown Rivers (pretty good too). And I don’t think I’m getting out of this era anytime soon.

We have a strong fmc in this book, she knows what she wants and doesn’t. The fmc reminded me quite a bit of pursuit of jade’s fmc, both wanting to be on the battlefield and wanting to take matters into their own hands.

I found the first couple of chapters quite draggy, having to read about her repeating multiple times why she needs to break free from her destiny and the palace. Otherwise I found the story rather engaging as it started picking up the pace.

I didn’t feel the romance and tension between the fmc and 2 male leads as much as I did in the other 2 books (especially the poet empress) so this element was a miss for me. I also wish we got to find out more about each prince and their thoughts since you know, the title of this book is about the nightblood prince.

A collection of quirky short stories about space travel, emotions as tangible products, human ambition and more. I like how the author explored different dimensions of technology of the future and the impact on people and relationships. The design of the book cover is also so attractive!

If we cannot go at the speed of light. ⚡️

I’m not lazy, I’m on energy saving mode. 📱

This felt like I was reading a diary of a friend. Some parts relatable, overall an easy read. I like the drawings too. The title reminds me of cats hence the additional cat pic 🐱. I wonder why the author decided on “dancing snail” for her pseudonym..

Four seasons in Japan was my final book of 2024. I found it timely, as a reminder to slow down and appreciate those around us, just in time for the new year. The story was wonderful, the descriptions and friendships in the small town Onomichi were beautiful. Good character development too. I especially liked how we got to hear it from a translator’s perspective.

I read 48 books last year. This year, I’m looking forward to discovering more books, being pulled into more worlds, and intentionally slowing down my reading especially on days I feel hurried to squeeze in more reading in my spare time.

I bought sweet bean paste awhile back but only just found the time to crack it open. This is a book that is well loved by many and it’s not hard to see why. The prose evokes a calming feel and the author brings out the inner thoughts and emotions of the characters so beautifully. Needless to say, I developed a dorayaki craving from all its delightful descriptions.

Blazingly brilliant and beautiful are exactly the words to describe this book. The writing draws you in and the way the story evolved as the chapters went by was so natural and seamless. I truly felt the main character’s struggles and the tension between the characters. For a moment I wondered if the story would never end, perhaps it’s a bit too long, but I realised it’s likely how being in w/ar feels - long and drawn out almost as if it’s never gonna end.

*taps mic* I took a break from this community about a month back to focus on other commitments. My reading has definitely tapered down as well, adjusted reading goal accordingly.

Glad to be back but definitely taking it slow and not going to be as active on here as I was before.

Hope you're all doing well. Lemme show some love to all the bookish content that's been happening!
