Some days don’t feel extraordinary…

The sea remembers what we forget.

A mermaid searching for forgotten memories beneath the waves.

I imagine the ocean as a place where lost houses, bicycles, letters, and dreams quietly wait to be found.

This illustration came to life with a gentle touch of animation.

After sanshin practice, I stopped by the Nikkei National Museum to see the exhibition “Return to Paueru Gai: 50 Years of Powell Street Festival.”

A friend told me,
“I saw the posters you designed!”
So of course I had to go.

Seeing my Powell Street Festival posters from 2000 and 2010 and 2011 on the wall brought back so many memories.

The 2000 poster made me pause.
Has it really been 26 years?

One funny detail I noticed:
the 2000 poster only had one sponsor logo.
By 2010 and 2011, there were so many sponsors that fitting every logo onto the poster became one of the biggest design challenges!

Besides the posters, I also designed festival merchandise, including T-shirts and water bottles.

This year also marks my 32nd year at Powell Street Festival.

I’ve been part of the festival as an artist vendor, as a member of Sawagi Taiko years ago, and now as a sanshin performer.

Perfect attendance for 32 years… I guess that’s something to celebrate. 😊

If you’re coming to the festival this year, I’d love to see you!

三線の練習のあと、日系センターのミュージアムで開催中の “Return to Paueru Gai: 50 Years of Powell Street Festival” を見に行ってきました。

「Kao

One of my latest DIY projects!

Years ago, I used to take this little pochade box outdoors for painting. It had been sitting unused for quite a while, so I decided to give it a new life.

I transformed it into a portable greeting card display for art markets. It stores my cards safely during transport, opens into a display in seconds, and packs away just as quickly.

I love when a simple idea turns out even better than I imagined. 🤎

Sometimes inspiration appears when you least expect it.

A seal surfaced quietly in English Bay, and I couldn’t stop wondering what might be waiting beyond the horizon.

When I came home, a little mermaid found her way into my sketchbook.

Maybe every story begins with a moment of quiet curiosity.

While writing the script for my picture book, I found myself staring at the same page for a long time.

So I stepped away for a little while…
and tried bringing one scene to life instead.

My very first little animation.

Maybe every story needs a chance to breathe.

🌙 I Look the Ocean

Today was the last day of my exhibition at Kinder Books.

Before bringing my artwork home, I typed thank-you letters to Anne and Lee on my little typewriter.

Every exhibition leaves behind memories, but what stays with me most is the kindness of the people I meet along the way.

Thank you to everyone who visited, shared kind words, or brought a friend.
You made this exhibition truly special.

I’m so happy to share that Kinder Books has invited me back next year for another exhibition and event. 🌿

And if you couldn’t make it this time, my tote bags, greeting cards, and postcard sets are still available at Kinder Books.

Until next time. 🤍

A hot summer day.

He tuned the little heart-shaped ukulele he picked out because “it was too cute to leave behind.”

I sat in the garden, nibbling sweet cherries straight from the tree and softly strumming.

Then he handed me a piece of chalk.

So I filled the garden stones with little drawings.

When I think about it,
I’m not doing anything very different from when I was a child.

Life has become busier,
but the things that make my heart happy haven’t changed.

I have a feeling I’ll still be like this when I’m an old woman.

Drawing outside.
Eating cherries from the garden.
Playing music.
Finding joy in ordinary afternoons.

🍒

When I stopped by to replace some sold pieces, I found these notes waiting on the wall.

“This piece has found a new home.”

Such a simple gesture, but it made me smile.

Thank you, Lee. 🤍

Yesterday’s Sakura Flower Making Workshop at Kinder Books was filled with smiles, creativity, and plenty of pink petals. 🌸

It was such a joy watching everyone transform simple sheets of tissue paper into blooming flowers, each one unique and made with care.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Kinder Books for hosting such a lovely afternoon.

We even finished the day with ice cream by the river, which felt like the perfect ending to a beautiful day. 🍦✨

My solo exhibition, Listen, Just You and Me, is on view throughout June, so if you’re in New Westminster, I’d love for you to stop by.
