🪩🪭 WAAKING WORKSHOP & ARTIST TALK with @mariana_benenge

The dancefloor, as we know and use it today, originated as a place for queer affirmation and underground resistance. During the early Disco days, a dance style known as “punking” emerged in gay clubs in Los Angeles (”punk” being a derogatory term for gay men at the time). It was marked by distinctive rotational arm movements, expressiveness and power poses, as if to symbolize the pride and prowess with which marginalized queer youth were reclaiming and reshaping counter-culture in the 70s. Waacking, as it was later renamed to avoid controversial connotations, became popular through the American dance television program Soul Train, but remained largely underground as club culture grew into a worldwide phenomenon captured by priorities other than dancing.

Following the lead of The Better Move, @tanzen3000_offiziell and other affiliates across town, we say: it is high time we brought back DANCERS TO THE FRONT of the club! Which is why we have invited Mariana Benenge to initiate our slicking festivities with a Waacking workshop.

Originally from Congo, Mariana Benenge is a bold choreographer and a free spirit within Paris’s queer community (see @pulse.only). Mariana creates spaces where the sensuality, energy, and individuality of every body can shine through a queer and inclusive lens. Her talent has led her to collaborate with prestigious Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Maison Margiela.

In this Open Level workshop, we’ll cover Waacking essentials while going deeper into intention, presence and expression. How do you come into your power—inside and outside the dancefloor? This is a great introduction to the Culture behind the dance and a chance to meet fellow Berlin Waackers.

⚡️ DJ support by @robin_flux

👠 Capacity is limited, and pre-registration is required. Participation costs €25 and also includes access to the party (link in bio). We have also reserved 10 solidarity spots for those who need them. To apply for a solidarity ticket, please email us at info@lecken.berlin.

✧ ʟᴇᴄᴋᴇɴ x ꜱʟɪᴄ ᴜɴɪᴛ ✧ 16.10 ✧ @kreuzwerk.berlin

✧

What is dancefloor satisfaction? Satisfaction isn’t handed out freely. It’s not enforced into being. It’s not something you can simply pay for. No foreplay without follow-through. No tension without release. No commitment without sacrifice. Good things come to those who create—and this edition is going to be so satisfying!
✧
Lecken is joining forces with the incredibly talented SLIC Unit crew to create a night of sonic and somatic expansion and community crossover. Across Germany, SLIC Unit is known for turning dance floors into altars of diasporic rhythms, bass weight, and incendiary energy. Their recent Keep Hush appearance catches them at the height of their prowess. They hold it down regularly at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel these days, but their real residency is with the communities they keep building, on or off the decks, wherever underrepresented voices need amplification.
✧
Mixing those SLIC juices with Lecken’s energy promises a particularly potent concoction. For our last dance of the year, we’re presenting a rich program of transatlantic sounds spanning House, UKG, Ballroom, Bounce, Baile Funk, Perreo, Footwork, and Techno. No respite. DANCERS TO THE FRONT!
✧
…and to kick things off we have invited dancer, movement director, and co-founder of pure hotness @pulse.only, @mariana_benenge to heat up the dancefloor with a Waacking dance workshop and artist talk. More infos soon!

𝕪𝕦𝕟𝕘_𝕨𝕠𝕞𝕓 𝕓𝟚𝕓 ℂℍ𝕀ℕ𝕐𝔼ℝ𝔼 both play as if every club genre is fair game. SLIC Unit co-founder, @yung_womb, mixes Latin, Afro and US club music into sets that feel like a tornado of heat and percussive intensity. Meanwhile Hamburg’s up and coming, @chinyyyere, meanders through gqom, hard drum, UK garage, footwork, bubbling, singeli, and drill with a deep sense of playfulness. Put them on the same bill and you get two DJs who like keeping the dancefloor guessing what happens next. Expect drums out front, heavy basslines, and plenty of club staples reworked into something you haven’t quite heard before.

Happy 2️⃣nd birthday to my baby MUSIC CITY!

Tune in today from 2-3pm CET for an hour of favorites from the past two years :)

I was so nervous doing the first show, I never thought I’d enjoy this as much as I do now. Thankful for each and every person that tunes into my lil on-air therapy session, @refugeworldwide for giving me the platform, every connection I’ve made through this.

Love y’all 💋 taken in Berlin, Germany by @slic_unit

ℝ𝕠𝕓𝕚𝕟 𝔽𝕝𝕦𝕩 comes to the dance floor from inside it. A multidisciplinary artist, Robin moves between House, Disco, Ballroom, UKG, and the stranger territories where genres start sweating into each other. He crafts sets that are heavily informed by his background as a dancer: full of rhythm, tension, release and attitude, and deeply rooted in queer lineages of house and club culture.

As a long-time figure in Ballroom, House and Waacking communities, Robin has been instrumental in bringing the dance and club scenes closer together through the EU-funded initiative, A Better Move, and through his role as a backbone of the Berlin Waacking community. He gives dancers’ movements and stories space at the center of the night, where they are lived rather than referenced. Through his many efforts, on and off the dancefloor, Robin proves that organizing is first and foremost a labor of love.

𝕊𝕝𝕚𝕞𝕘𝕚𝕣𝕝 𝕗𝕒𝕥 𝕓𝟚𝕓 ℕ𝔸𝕊 𝕋𝔼𝔸 • Lick, Slic, Sick! Our second B2B brings together two selectors known for a taste in genre-bending rhythms  and unexpected shifts in direction. @slimgirl_fat is a singer, producer and DJ who loves to blur genre conventions go all kinds, not only in her own music but also on the decks. Her selections can move from dense, break-driven material to more stripped-back and disorienting moments without losing momentum. Meanwhile @globalglobb works across a similarly broad spectrum, moving freely between high-impact tracks and stranger, less predictable choices, balancing precision with chaos, the melodic with the low end. Expect a B2B built around breaks, bass and pressure, and plenty of room for both selectors to throw the direction off course.

ℕ𝕚𝕤𝕤𝕒 ℂ𝕒𝕣𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕥𝕠𝕟 𝕓𝟚𝕓 𝕍𝕀𝕊Á𝕃 𝕂𝕀𝕄 >> What does dance floor satisfaction look like, you ask? Probably like a one-night multiverse of rhythms and groove extractions summoning several club and dance communities from across the city and beyond. And because restraint is not our name, every SLIC Unit resident will go bae-2-bae with a special partner in crime. First up, we have @anissacarrington, no stranger to the Lecken floor, and @visalkim_, with roots dug deep in the Berlin vogueing scene, bringing that booty sound that stretches between Baltimore club, Miami bass, Chicago ghetto-to-juke-to-footwork, plus all the Vogueing drops you could ask for. In the words of DJ Funk: “This shit is fast and this shit is raunchy.” Let’s juke!

Aaaaaaaaah!!! We are DEAD excited to welcome @t.no at @pudel_com for the very first time on September 19th 🖤 We know that weekend is already packed — but now it just got EVEN FULLER. Because this one is a no-brainer. A can’t-miss 🥵

Joining him for the night Hamburg-based @manu.owusuu, also making his Pudel debut, plus residents @yung_womb and @fav.tomboy bringing their own eclectic takes on Black electronic sounds, techno, breaks & beyond.

Amsterdam-based DJ and producer @t.no blends his Surinamese roots with global club influences, crafting a distinctive sound driven by rhythm and energy. Drawing from styles such as gqom, grime, kawina, bubbling, kuduro, and funk carioca, his sets and productions combine raw percussion with deep bass and dynamic flow. With releases on labels including Club Djembe and re:lax, T.NO is quickly establishing himself as one of Amsterdam’s most promising new talents. This rise has been picked up by DJ Mag recently, who tagged him as one of the artists to watch for 2026 🫠🤩 taken in Golden Pudel Club by @slic_unit
