This is the story of Slim’s - once an iconic BBQ diner, then down for the count, and now reimagined as an upscale mercantile. Slim’s offers a cool shopping experience, with thoughtfully curated product lines intermixed with vintage homegoods against the backdrop of a former diner, complete with counter and spinning stools.

𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒏 - selected by Rolling Stone as “Best Music Book of 2024!”

This weekend we celebrated spring and all things garden at our fourth annual Frenchtown Spring Fete.

At the end of a wonderful day on our Frenchtown block
- a day bursting in color and smiles - we couldn’t help but take a look at where we started.

Nine years ago we acquired the long vacant 1930 filling station originally designed to resemble an English cottage. Then, two years later, we were fortunate to add a neighboring structure - in rough shape and empty for 25 years - but once home to an iconic and bustling BBQ diner.

Nine years ago the block was quiet and forlorn. But, a little bit of love goes a pretty long way. Where are we today? Our nationally recognized Frenchtown block consists of two shops - Slim’s Frenchtown Mercantile and Frenchtown Station @frenchtownstation. And this weekend, with generosity and love of friends, old and new, we celebrated spring and the hope that comes from new beginnings.

In early March we will celebrate the seventh anniversary of our acquisition of a structure that was once home to an iconic BBQ diner - Slim’s Barbecue. A popular gathering place, constructed in 1947 in the vernacular of a southern BBQ joint, this building was vacant for over 20 years, and then, in 2017, was scheduled for demolition.

That same year, we had just completed a lengthy restoration of a 1930 filling station (now @frenchtownstation) just next door to Slim’s.

Demolition day for the old Slim’s BBQ drew near, but we had a dream to save and restore this place and reimagine it as an upscale mercantile.
After more than a year of intense restoration, we opened Slim’s Frenchtown Mercantile in July 2019.

Now, seven years since acquisition, Slim’s continues its journey as a very special and unique shopping experience. We have one awesome block of restored goodness in @paducahcreativecity, and we work hard to fill these shops with interesting and captivating items for your consideration.

Since opening shops in 2017 and 2019, respectively, our Frenchtown block has been honored and recognized by @southernlivingmag, @styleblueprint, @goodgritmag, and @onlyinyourstate. We’re proud that both shops have welcomed visitors from across the country. It’s the kind of strange magic that comes from following a dream.
