Earlier this year, the publisher of my books Tales Accursed and Damnable Tales went into administration, following months of uncertainty and authors going unpaid for their efforts for over a year. Boundless agreed to send me the remaining copies of Tales Accursed clogging up their warehouse. Considering how much they owe me (I try not to dwell on it too much, oof…) it’s the very least they could do. So I now have some sixty boxes of books in the garage that I'm going to be selling in my shop.

Check out the different illustrated variations I'm offering below. I can also write a dedication if you like - let me know in the customer comments or drop me an email after purchasing.

Every copy includes an A6 art card of the illustration for the story 'Change' by Arthur Machen. This was a planned additional tale to be included in the paperback edition of Tales Accursed, but the publisher went under before this could go into production.

Nerd tourism alert!

Here are some shot matches from my Netherlands trip where I sought out shooting locations from Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979). Lovely Delft doubling for the German city of Wismar.

The opening credits take place over this shot taken from the Kaakbrug bridge looking down the Hippolytusbuurt, just to the left of the excellent Blauwe Roos antiques shop.

Exterior of Jonathan and Lucy’s home. This beautiful building is the last house on Kerkstraat, the shot is taken just over the bridge on Vrouwenregt. On the left is a glimpse of the towering Oude Kerk that we’ll be venturing up later.

I was proud of myself for this discovery. Jonathan (and Renfield’s) place of work is located at 81 Koornmarkt. I managed to spot it purely from recognising the exterior door moulding. Though we never see the exterior in the film, we catch a glimpse of the door when Jonathan first enters.

Original bannisters intact! The building has been carved up into a bafflingly large number of student flats, and this space is the communal hallway. Little do those kids know Roland Topor once giggled here!

The exterior of Mina’s house (this is one of the Dracula adaptations where Mina and Lucy inexplicably switch names). The building is the Museum Paul Tétar van Elven at 67 Koornmarkt, established in 1927. You can see a plaque for Paul Tétar van Elven on the exterior wall later in the film when Lucy (Isabelle Adjani) is out sleepwalking.

Jonathan leaves the city through the Oostpoort (Eastern Gate) and heads off to Transylvania.

While sickly Jonathan makes his way back home, Dracula has made his way to Wismar aboard a ship (renamed the Contamana, a reference to the ship that inspired Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo). A ratty trojan horse! This sequence was shot in the town of Schiedam, about 23 miles south of Delft. The shot is taken on Lange Haven near the ugly Taanbrug footbridge (installed in 2017) that now spoils the view! The building with the spire is The St. John the Baptist Church, better known as the Havenkerk, built 1822.

Ahead of an upcoming *exciting trip*, I’ve been revisiting the features and short films of the great Jan Švankmajer. Of the features, the endlessly inventive Lekce Faust (1994) remains my favourite. Biggest surprise was just how much more I enjoyed Lunacy (2005) on a second viewing, put me in mind of the rambling allegorical fantasias of Wojciech Has, great stuff! Of the shorts, along with the old favourites, one that particularly stayed with me is the quietly chilling The Garden (1968), perhaps his most overtly political work. A man is invited to a country estate with a perimeter fence composed of silent human 'volunteers'. Seek it out if you haven’t seen it.

On my shelf you might spot a box of screen-used props from Švankmajer's final film, one of my most prized possessions! Picked it up from the Insect crowdfunding campaign. I reckon they should launch a new campaign for a deluxe restored set of the short films, long overdue..! by @slippery_jack

Well it's official: @greenlungband's Necropolitan has only gone and entered the UK Official Album Chart, in at number 25! Huge congrats to the spooky lads, always a pleasure turning out their cursed imagery.

The Necropolitan lyric booklet was a particular hoot, I've loved seeing pics of everyone receiving their copies. Thought I'd share the initial cover scribble that started the latest journey.

Thanks to everyone who has listened to the album thus far! The reaction has blown us away - amazing to see all your pictures of the record gracing turntables around the world. We wanted to take this opportunity to draw you attention to the beautifully crafted animated video for ‘Dance to the Grave’, created by @slippery_jack and @josephsbrett. The song is based on the late medieval concept of the ‘danse macabre’ - a timeless allegory about the universality of death represented in a skeletal dance between young and old, rich and poor. I arrived in Abbots Bromley at 07:20 sharp ready for the unshackling of the 1000 year old horns stored all year round in the village church. Some pics from the day of dancing!
One of the joys of the day is just catching snatches of conversation - everyone knows everyone and there's a real sense of village pride, generations of family members taking part in the dance (an elderly lady pointed out her great grandfather in a photo in the homespun heritage display). by @slippery_jack
