“Join my storytelling journey through slow travel, exploring local cultures, communities, and personal reflections.”
When I wrote the very first line of my newsletter, I didn’t know who (if anyone) would read it.

A few months later, 200+ thoughtful readers signed up. Most of them are writers themselves, along with being avid readers, and together, we’re keeping long-form storytelling (through words) alive.
There might be more people consuming short-form content, but long-form storytelling isn’t dead.

It is only when we spend hours scrolling aimlessly to the point of fatigue that we believe “nobody reads.” Yes, the speed and volume of readership have come down, as today we have many forms of content in multiple formats, but sometimes, slowing down for a story feels like the most restful thing in our highly stimulating, fast-paced world.

If you are a reader, and want to take a break from scrolling to read, you can subscribe to my newsletter from the link in bio. Just twice a month, in your inbox.

Moving Forward - from Sustainable Crafts to Mindful Travel Stories

For the last 10 years, I worked in the sustainable fashion and craft sector. Along with the designing process, I had always thoroughly enjoyed my research trips to artisans’ villages! These trips were not just about learning about the crafts but also about the environmental and social impact, the artisans’ lifestyles, their local food, and so many little anecdotes about a particular region that I probably would have never known, no matter how much I read about it in books or the internet!
So, here I am starting a long-time goal to document more stories - of crafts, travel, environment & slow living!

P.S I have been publishing weekly newsletters on Substack since Jan 2025.

‘Get Paid to Travel’!
Sounds cool, right? This is a course by one of my favourite travel storytellers, @shivya, under @theshootingstaracademy
✨{Use code ‘namratagohain’ for 20% OFF}

I stumbled upon it at a time when I was already enjoying writing sustainability-based articles and branching out in my career towards content production and communication.

The course promised storytelling lessons for writers, creators, vloggers, photographers, and videographers - for both experienced professionals and debutantes.

So, I bought the course.
And it was one of the best investments I ever made!💛

👉It taught me the importance of how good quality storytelling is still sought after and appreciated, beyond follower numbers and virality.

👉It brought clarity to my niche and helped me to confidently wear the hat of a multipotentialite and generalist.

👉I learnt practical industry insider tips and how to go ahead with authentic self-branding. But above all, it gave me a supportive community of fellow travel storytellers!

✨Join the course if you want to tell real, heartfelt travel stories - by humans, for humans!💛

As a part of an immersive food experience in an island called Chorao in Goa, we (@slowaintguilty & @geetmavilla) learnt to prepare Donné with @soul.travelling

Made out of jackfruit leaves, rice flour, and filling of coconut & jaggery, Donné are Goan sweet steamed dumplings.
I’m not sure if you can find readymade ones to try but with @soul.travelling’s food experiences you will get a chance to try making them on your own.

I think we did a pretty good job with making them for the first time but not sure if experts would approve of our speed! 🫣

Propaganda I’m not falling for anymore:
- People don’t have the time to read.
- People don’t have the time to write.
- People like all-things-dumb.
- People have short-attention span.

People who read and write are reading and writing! They are simply just not talking about it that much. 🤷🏻‍♀️ by @slowaintguilty

Like a fool, I decided to hit “publish” when “AI vs Writers/Artists” was the hot topic of discussion.
And realised that “people don’t read” is the biggest BS that I (embarrassingly) started to believe for some time.

If you love writing, just write. In the world of AI-generated text, the worth of words written by humans has become far more valuable.

And if you like what you see here, then subscribe to my newsletter from the link in bio :)
Or just google “Slow ain’t guilty Substack” and you’ll find me. I publish twice a month.🫰

For non-readers, I’ll try to be as consistent with excerpts and snippets on IG as I am with my newsletter. 🫣 by @slowaintguilty

Kaziranga National Park is not just another biodiversity hotspot of Assam and Northeast India. It is the soul of the state, and a living example of how coexistence between humans and wildlife is possible.
I’ve been travelling by road, crossing Kaziranga on the way, since childhood, and have never heard a single soul complain about it. It’s ingrained in us that Kaziranga is home to the animals, and we are simply passing by someone’s home.

Talking of tourism and development - yes, it is a tourist hotspot and attracts travellers from around the world. During peak season, it’s tough to even get bookings. Celebrities have visited too. It is already “developed” the right way, with hotels, homestays, and cafés.

This area also gets submerged every monsoon, and the animals find relief by travelling to higher ground.
And it’s not just the animals whose land is at stake. Local tribal families who’ve lived and taken care of this land for generations are being pushed out too, often without real consent.

You want to put up five-star hotels? Okay, but for whom? For what? And most importantly, why at the cost of nature’s destruction?
Travellers who visit Kaziranga come here for their love of wildlife, biodiversity, and culture - not for “White Lotus”-style luxury.
You want to build a stadium? A STADIUM? At a place where there should not be loud noises around, because well, it’s a jungle!

"My head can detect a heatwave before the forecast."

That's how Namrata describes living with migraines in a world where extreme heat has become more frequent.

In this episode of Climate Unfiltered, she reflects on how rising temperatures have changed not just the weather, but her everyday routine, from work and rest to the simple habits she now has to rethink.

Climate change isn't always experienced through headlines. Sometimes, it's experienced through our own bodies.

🌧️ What if rain no longer feels like relief?

For many of us, monsoons bring memories of paper boats, chai and the smell of wet earth.

But today, they also bring flooded streets, humid days and cities that struggle to keep up.

In Episode 2 of Climate Unfiltered, Namrata Gohain and Shreya Arora share stories from Assam and Delhi to explore how our relationship with water is changing, and why these changes are about much more than the weather.

What's one thing about the monsoon that feels different today compared to when you were growing up?

🎥 Watch the full episode through our bio.

Assam, India needs immediate flood relief and global attention!
Seeing local people come together to crowdfund, and do their best to distribute essentials everywhere is really heartwarming.
➡️(check highlights folder - Flood Relief)

But it’s also high time to ask questions about climate resilience.
It’s a known fact that Assam is a flood-prone, eco-sensitive area. Yet there are more deforestation vs development debates ongoing, instead of discussions around sustainable solutions combining indigenous knowledge and modern methods to mitigate such events.

Let’s not forget about the floods during the dry months, and discuss what can be done so this does not happen again.

I recently presented at the 5th Life Cycle Innovation Conference - LCIC 2026 by FSLCI (Berlin).

This was my debut attempt at writing an abstract and getting selected to present at a global conference.
I shared a comparative analysis about the environmental impacts of traditional textile methods & materials vs conventional, mechanised processes.

There’s an often-overlooked paradox in the sustainable fashion and textile sector, today: declining artisan participation amid growing consumer interest in handmade goods.
The first-hand experience of founding @kaizenthelabel and working with handmade textiles exposed me to various environmental, social and business perspectives that exist in this field.

With crafts being a significant path to eco-fashion, can the application of LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) enable artisans to participate in global sustainability dialogue and in sustainability-driven markets beyond cultural considerations?

I hope to find out some answers and share with you too. :) by @slowaintguilty

The ‘tring tring’ ring seemed like the most consistent sound of the Netherlands on my short trip there, three years ago. Cycles were everywhere from crowded Amsterdam streets to quiet countryside lanes and in the paths along highways, connecting bridges and tunnels. People of all ages pedalling with a confidence I hadn’t seen anywhere else.

Personally, I didn’t cycle through Dutch lanes (next time for sure), but I was walking and using public transport for commuting between Amsterdam and the countryside. A bus driver quietly let us hop on after realising we’d bought the wrong ticket, without us even asking. A stranger helped us sort another ticket mix-up at a deserted station. An Indian-origin cab driver we met on the first day summed it up with a simple: “Log yahaan bahut acche hai” — people here are very nice.
It’s the little warm and helpful encounters with the locals that made me feel that the well-known Dutch cycling infrastructure seems to be a reflection of the culture of the place.

Watching a Youtube film called ‘All About Dutch Cycling,’ by Vijay Malhotra (@pedalandtringtring), transported me straight back to the red cycling paths! Sometime in the beginning of the film, local people said that cycling is “NOT in Dutch people’s DNA” like how the world casually assumes, but has been made possible over years due to people coming together through movements, civil action and policy making.

A safe, peaceful commute is something I deeply care about as a citizen in India, and I wonder what we could learn, and adapt, as per our own climate, culture, and road realities.
Would love to hear from urban planners or anyone working in this space: what should common citizens like us expect, and what can we take responsibility for?

📖Read the full newsletter on Substack (link in bio)

P.S. 3rd June is celebrated as World Bicycle Day and “All About Dutch Cycling” is releasing on YT today, at 6.30 PM IST. You’ll get to see a glimpse of life in The Netherlands (beyond Amsterdam) while cycling with Vijay (@pedalandtringtring) and many local Dutch experts.
