Crafted on morphine. Couldn’t capture the face and Instagram has made me add a border to fit but it’ll do for a Sunday meditation. taken in Bristol, United Kingdom by @slowmotionhome_

2025 was an interesting, challenging year, seasoned with joy. I spent most of my time in the Welsh mountains and forests- this environment, my dogs, my partner, and my incredible friends and family all coalesced to help me weather the difficult parts.

Mid-year, I had my colon removed and a stoma fitted in an intense and complicated surgery. It was unbelievably scary, but I was dying- an interesting thing to get your head around. I missed the summer, my favourite time of year, because I couldn’t walk for months. Everything had to stop dead for quite some time.

I felt deflated and embarrassed at points, almost as if I’d failed my dogs in some ways- especially my puppy, who was in critical development stages because I got so unwell. I was embarrassed, too, because I had to jump-ship mid-plan with clients.

But my iPhone just collated a 2025 video roundup, and in that I saw so many moments of joy: my dogs out with me, their incredible recall and connection with me and their environment. On reflection, they probably kept me going longer than I realised, and in the midst of difficulty, I wasn’t seeing how much we’d progressed in our bond.

Today I felt the crispy last leaves, ice, and snow; feeding a new, refreshing headspace for me. I’m feeling some fear, but mostly inspiration for 2026. I celebrate the New Year in April, but January feels significant, as many things have come together- milestones and reflections. by @slowmotionhome_

A 20 min doodle and words to those who hurt.
We are sometimes pushed beyond our limits.
You have been.

I have been for the past couple of years and it’s coming together for me now and setting up a next important stage in my life.

As much as there’s a desire to, gaining control can be impossible. These experiences hold no synchronicity with control.
There’s a path into dealing with pain and fear in the relationship you have with yourself. The path is not linear but it can become suddenly clear.

We can feel the pain, acknowledge the pain. We can remove judgement. You are your advocate, you are your team.
Every time you pause, spend time with *you* (not the chatterbox in your head), not your past labels, not your future phantoms, you inch closer to loving yourself. Love is trust.

I have spent so many rounds in the circle of illness and pain being in conflict with ‘me’ - “what have I done to myself, why can’t I make my body work?”. A total victim to my life story, but my story and life is right now- and only now.

The body, though present and ever-feeling is one element of this incredible trip.
There is a ripple of innate knowing and connection with ourselves underneath it all, and it’s our truest guidance.

Sometimes intense trauma can force it to overtake.
That happened to me.

The only way through it is to surrender and trust. This is a skill that happens seconds at a time. The words “letting go” mean nothing without the time with yourself.

I wake up often ready to fight to protect my stomach, my mind, my pride, my vanity, pain and fear. To control all the elements. That’s when I know my nervous system has taken the wheel - but the real me is in here, I just have to welcome myself home.

You are your home, and nothing can hurt you here. taken in Cwmbran by @slowmotionhome_
