I’ve been making a lot of works lately around the theme about what home to me is, it’s split between two places, both carrying memory and history. I have so much gratitude to Megan, and @refbc for inviting me to create this work, kw’ótl’kwa || Stó:lō

Here is a little more about the work!

kw’ótl’kwa || Stó:lō
Ocean || River
This work speaks to the meeting of two currents, the river and the ocean.
It reflects the place where fresh and salt water meet, where stories, people, and histories converge. Along the Stó:lō, the river carries memory from the mountains to the sea. At the shoreline, those waters merge with the ocean before returning again through rain, mist, and tide.
The work was inspired by salmon, who pause and adjust as they move between these waters. Neither fully river nor fully ocean, this space of transition is one of adaptation, learning, and transformation.
Like the salmon, we are constantly moving between worlds, carrying teachings, relationships, and responsibilities with us. The river does not end at the ocean, and the ocean continues back into the river. They remain connected, each shaping the other.
kw’ótl’kwa || Stó:lō reflects this ongoing relationship between movement and return, change and continuity, ocean and river.

I’m a bit behind posting this, but you may have noticed my newest mural downtown recently! Thank you to @downtownvan for making this work possible. Here’s the story behind the work

Gathering Place

Eagle, Spó:lém (Eagle), is the messenger, carrying prayers, knowledge, and connection between worlds. With an eagle on the east and west of this land, I wanted to speak to the transfer of knowledge and relationships between these two mountain ranges.

This mural holds two homes in one view. To the east stands Th’exelis (Mount Cheam), one of the most treasured peaks of S’ólh Téméxw (our land / our world). To the west, Ch’ich’iyúy Elxwíkn (The Lions / Twin Sisters) rise above the inlet. To me, both horizons are home.

The weaving forms on each side speak to these mountain ranges, placing us in the space between them.

At the center is the meeting place, where Sto:lo (River / Fraser River people) waters meet the sea. One pattern carries the movement of the Sto:lo, bringing sth’óqwi (salmon), stories, and nourishment from inland to the coast. The other becomes the ocean, full of tides, currents, and voices from many places. Above it all, the moon shines as witness.

Through this mural, I express gratitude to this land and my relatives, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) peoples, whose territories hold this gathering place where river and ocean meet. I am proud of the ancestral relations between these Nations and my people, the Sto:lo (River people), who have gathered, traded, shared stories, and created family here since time beyond memory.

Through this season of sport and gathering, the moon will again bear witness to people meeting where the river meets the ocean.

{DE}Fragmented is now live in Downtown Vancouver at Granville and Davie as part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 celebrations!

Thank you to @downtownvan and the @cityofvancouver for creating space for public art, storytelling, and connection during such an exciting moment for the city.

{DE}Fragmented is a deconstructed Salish relief of an eagle’s head. Each shape exists as its own fragment, spread apart from the whole. Together, they slowly come back into focus, forming the image once again.

The work is a reflection on the ways we can sometimes feel disconnected from our roots, our languages, our histories, our communities, and the lands that shape us. It considers the ongoing journey of finding our way back and the pieces we gather along the way.

The eagle sits at the heart of the installation as a messenger, carrying stories, teachings, and connections across generations. In many ways, this work is a messenger too.

Hidden throughout the walls are QR codes that reveal Augmented Reality, audio, and video stories from artists, knowledge holders, and community members. Each story offers a different perspective on identity, belonging, culture, place, and our relationships with ourselves and one another.

This installation marks the first chapter of {DE}Fragmented as a growing collection of stories. Over the coming weeks, I will be releasing three featured artist stories through new QR experiences embedded within the installation. As each story is added, I will be introducing the artist and their work here as part of the ongoing journey of the project.

Because of this, {DE}Fragmented is designed to evolve throughout its time downtown. If you visit once, I encourage you to come back again. New stories, perspectives, and experiences will continue to emerge as the installation grows.

✨SHXWEMA✨

On May 21, I had the honour of unveiling Shxwema at YVR as part of the 2025 YVR Art Foundation Scholarship Awards.

Originally created years ago as a digital AR artwork, this piece explores Indigenous language in everyday public space. Over time, I realized it needed to exist physically.

This project has been a meaningful journey of bringing an idea into a new form and finding ways for language to be present in the spaces we move through every day.

Placemaking sits at the heart of my practice. Through immersive technology, public art, and now neon, I continue exploring ways to bring our stories, perspectives, and languages into contemporary shared spaces.

Learning the process of neon craft alongside my friends at @getbentneoninc deeply meaningful. It is something I have wanted to do since I was a wee mímele. Creating this work in real tube neon, rather than LED, was important to me. Vancouver has a rich neon history, and I wanted to connect our language to this increasingly rare craft that has helped shape the visual identity of our region.

With Shxwema, I wanted to bring language into public space in a quiet and approachable way. The familiar “open” sign creates an accessible entry point for people to engage with Indigenous language without barriers or intimidation.

We regularly see English and French reflected in public signage as expressions of place and identity. Indigenous languages deserve that same visibility. Bringing language into shared public spaces helps acknowledge whose territory we are on and reinforces that our languages are living, present, and belong everywhere we do.

Gratitude to and Hoy Chexw to @yvraf , @cityofrichmondbc, and @getbentneoninc , for helping bring this work to life!

A little late sharing this, but it finally happened. My first mural! We hustled through spring break to make this happen as a surprise for the students and the staff.

Grateful to the team at @hopesecondary for the opportunity to bring this into a space I used to walk as a student. A real full circle moment.

This piece brings together stories rooted in Ts’qó:ls. St’am’iya is carried through the landscape, reflecting transformation and presence in the land. Xa:ls and the stone in the river speaks to balance and consequence. The origin of fishing runs through the Fraser, holding knowledge, teaching, and survival. Th’óxiya is there as well, a reminder of awareness and the weight of our actions.

You’ll see shared Salish weaving patterns running throughout the piece, grounding everything in that visual language and tying the stories together across the surface. I leaned into bright, playful colour to keep the work open and inviting, and used overlapping forms and layout shifts to build a more contemporary way of holding multiple stories at once.

All of it is woven through pattern, colour, and form. The river, mountains, and animals moving through a shared story.

Thank you to @nawhasteenek , @kristieleeanne , and Caitlin Demmitt for making this possible.

And most importantly, none of this would exist without my life, film production, and mural partner @goodmark.academy

More to come on this piece…don’t sleep!

What is {DE}Fragmented?

{De}Fragmented is an installation I’ve been slowly building as a reflection on cultural reclamation, exploring how memory, language, and story find new form over time, and in new places.

Each time the work travels, it reassembles differently. Sculptural walls become pathways. Openings become windows. Digital layers including AR, sound, and projection emerge quietly within the structure, holding stories in collaboration with other artists.

Created with support from the @fpcc.ca , this piece exists within a larger movement of rediscovery and renewal. A gentle defragmenting. A returning.

The relief shapes carved into the walls reference Salish form. QR markers activate stories that surface in these openings, like knowledge reappearing in spaces where something once felt missing.

As sunlight moves across the installation, shadows stretch and shift. Time becomes visible.

When all the structural elements are brought together, they form the face of an eagle. Throughout the space, the pieces remain dispersed, like memory held in different corners of the mind. Woven patterns thread the walls together, connecting the fragments like a blanket still in progress.

Like the eagle, this installation becomes a vessel, a messenger carrying stories of finding place, belonging, roots, and ourselves in a time that often feels anything but.

This is only the beginning. {DE}Fragmented is a living work. I am seeking future placements, building relationships with the Nations whose territories it visits, and opening the space to collaboration. If you are an immersive AR or projection artist, sound artist, poet, storyteller, or someone who feels this work belongs in your gallery, event, or gathering space, I would truly welcome the conversation.

Let’s keep building bridges together. 🦅❤️

I was honoured to be able to softly launch my -in progress- installation work {DE}Fragmented in Victoria on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees Nation and Xʷsepsəm Nation, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.

Huge thank you to @experiencedusk and @downtownvictoria for helping bring what has been completed -so far- out into the world.

{DE}Fragmented is an immersive cultural installation shaped by the feeling of where we are right now. A time of collective reclamation. Of returning. Of remembering. Of rebuilding meaning through new mediums, in a world that has changed so much around us.

The work is built as a space you can walk through, sit inside, and spend time with.

Walls become pathways. Openings become windows.

The shapes cut into the structure are traditional Salish relief forms, acting like portals. Each one will be paired with a QR code, activating a shareable immersive story when viewed or listened to through your phone.

These experiences sit in the quiet places of forgotten or lost memory. Spaces where new knowledge can emerge. Stories from within, and stories carried in by others.

Sunlight moves through the positive and negative spaces, and shadows stretch and shift as the day passes. The work changes with time, the way we do.

{DE}Fragmented is a living artwork, and this was only the beginning.

With the next rendition, I cannot wait to curate artists and invite new AR, sound, and projection mapped works into the structure as it continues to grow.

We’re just getting started.
More to come.
