Hello everyone, it's time for another queer skate session in Skatelab! This Friday, the 9th of October.

Our goal is to create a space where queers folks can connect, support each other and roll together within the skate community. Feel free to stop by, say hi, hang out, and of course, skate if you feel like it.

We’re organizing this as “mixité choisie” (chosen mixity) space, focusing on queer folks, as a political tool aimed at creating more inclusivity long-term, where no one feels left out.

All levels and all wheels are welcome. We have skateboards and protective equipment available to borrow if needed.

Price is 5€ per year to become a Skatelab member (and insurance) and 2€ or more per session (give what you can).

Quai de l'industrie 111, look for the white Skatoria flag next to the entrance.

Hope to see you there!

lil impro @sluggishskate collab with Manon ✭ we got bored while watching football in a bar and Manon had this thermal mini printers but no paper.

We asked the barkeeper to give us some empty kassaticket roll and we rolled it up in the little machine.

Since we had limited amount of paper we decided to do double exposures and re-used teared up kassatickets.

A little one of a kind no published zine like unfolding mini documentation of this ADHD induced hyperactivity just for ourselves <3 <3 That was very enjoyable by @sluggishskate

⋆˚꩜｡⋆ Last year we started monthly queer skatesessions at @skatelab_bxl with friends and members of @sluggishskate 🌱

One day @_monarubi_ proposed to do a workshop around the theme “Farewell: Saying Goodbye”. We were delighted!

It started with a brainstorming about what Farewell could mean to us, and even if the topic could be considered tenderly heartbreaking or slightly lonely, it was beautiful to think about it in a collective setting and put words and images to it. The poems you hear are collective poems. Aren’t they beautiful? 🥹

Alternating skateboarding with group poetry, collage & sharing memories was a beautiful way to get to know the little Brussels queer skate community a little bit better ⭐️

Because the members of @sluggishskate can never keep it to one medium, a zine has emerged from the session’s collages, wounds & words, which then turned into a video with a melancholic veil.

The queer sessions are on now on summer break but will be back from September on!

Enjoy and see you next time…

Dear friends,
fellow skaters and passerby , we are very happy to present you the very first edition of SLUGGISH, a skatezine by the Brussels skatecrew “ SLUGS “ .
Sometimes we like to skate fast , but most of the time we love to take it really, really slow; hence the name of this zine .
We are all some sort of gatherers of images, sounds, film, thoughts, textures, textiles, tastes,,, so we decided to showcase our collection and compile them in a zine. You will witness some of our surroundings here in Bruxelles, considered « the capital of Europe » in Belgium .
We will show you around some street skate spots , DIY skateparks and a skate trip closeby to Luxembourg , and much more <3
About the crew : Some of us met a few years ago , some a few months ago . We realised we have all in common , aside of skating , an urge to create collectively and individually , in parallel to skateboarding and often during sessions too !
We organise various events , such as recurring queer skatesessions , a fundraising for Palestine , one of us also hosts a foodtruck .
This edition is a first attempt to bring all of this to the world and showcase a community of the girls, women & queer skate scene through our eyes,,, we hope to make more in the future!
