Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰

Some of you know I like to cook. I have some experience working in a kitchen, but there’s always something new to learn. And it gets even better when I can mix it with travel.

So I woke up in a hotel in Copenhagen with a completely free day (to be fair, the day before and the day after were free too) and thought - why not?

There were a few places in the city I’d wanted to see for a while. Bakeries, restaurants, a couple of streets. I first saw them in a show about chefs and people slightly obsessed with food, and they stuck in my head.

I put them all on a map, called it a plan, and went.

It’s a strange feeling. I’d already “seen” these places on screen, and now I was actually there - smelling fresh bread, watching people work behind the counter, tasting things, noticing small details the show never shows you. I also kept half expecting someone in the kitchen to yell “Hands!” or “Cousin!” Nobody did.

This is probably why cooking and travel go together so well for me. Cooking makes me look closer at a place. Travel gives me an excuse to bring something home. Sometimes it’s a recipe. Sometimes an ingredient. Sometimes just an idea. This time it was a loaf of sourdough. Some people bring fridge magnets.

And sometimes you just spend a whole day walking around Copenhagen because a TV show made you hungry and passionate!

Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰

Sometimes even I get a little sick of how ridiculously sweet I make the places I’ve been sound. And I wonder why.

I mean, it’s just another day. Regular people around, with two arms and two legs. A city I’ve already been to.

Maybe getting older and having 50+ countries behind you changes the way you travel. The novelty wears off, and so does the obsession with ticking places off the list and collecting fridge magnets. Instead, you start noticing the smaller things - smells, the air, strange light, unexpected angles.

Yesterday evening my son and I were walking around, just the two of us. We talked about travel, life, studying, the difficulties of starting at a new school - the boy is all grown up now and started college a month ago - and about being happy with what you already have.

At some point he said:

“Dad, it’s good that we don’t have… those…”

(He currently has two active languages in his head and three more somewhere in the process of loading.)

“…disabilities. We can do almost anything we want. All the possibilities are open to us.”

And that was probably the best description of gratitude I’ve heard in a while.

Not some motivational quote. Not “live every day like it’s your last.” Just a kid suddenly realizing that being able to walk around a city, talk, learn, travel, fuck things up, try again and choose where to go next is already a pretty fucking good starting point.

Maybe that’s why places start looking more beautiful with age.

Not because they change.

Because you finally start noticing how lucky you are to be there - to walk, to smell, to look around and notice the tiny details that make you happy.

Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰

Absolutely unexpected finding in Copenhagen.

The “Москвич” sign comes from Hotel Moskvich in Moscow, built near the AZLK factory that produced Moskvich cars.

It’s now part of Superkilen - a park in Nørrebro filled with objects and references brought from different countries by people living in the neighborhood.

And yes, this part of the park is actually called Red Square.

Just not that Red Square.

🇸🇪 Smögen, Sweden

Yesterday I read that Capricorns are so private that even after their own wedding, they’d probably just post a picture of a beautiful sky.

Well, I definitely didn’t get married that day, but there was no way I could keep these photos of beautiful Smögen to myself.

There’s something in the air here - the spirit of the sea, adventure, and an endless holiday. An incredible sense of calm and laid-backness everywhere you look.

And before you know it, you find yourself soaking it all in, slowing down, letting go of every thought, and simply enjoying the moment.

I guess that’s exactly what a holiday should feel like. ❤️

Oslo, Norway 🇳🇴

The city where our paths with Slava diverged. Cozy, authentic and gorgeous. Three Michelin stars, if they gave them to cities. Probably just as pricey, though I’ve never actually been to one 😁

Aurland, Norway 🇳🇴

Somewhere on the way to Oslo. Fjords, sheep, stave churches and the usual Norwegian weather - world is damn beautiful ♥️

🇳🇴 Bergen, Norway

I think it’s an ideal city for those who are desperately looking for rain, sea urchins, rain, a great variety of local ciders to taste, rain, clean kokos and maybe some rain.

The wettest city in Europe, with around 265 rainy days a year (yikes), and Norway’s biggest cruise port - prolly people from sandy regions coming here just to jump in puddles, I don’t have any other explanation though.

Technically, if I planned this trip again, I’d skip it without any regrets, cause for us it was mostly a pit stop to sleep in very comfortable beds after a week of semi-wild camping and rain was just a perfect excuse.

Next time someone complains to me about Dutch weather, I’ll just smirk knowingly.

🇳🇴 Odda, Norway

Most doctors agree that hiking, floating sauna, fishing and being promised orcas all in one day may cause your face to crack from excessive happiness. But who cares when you’re beautiful inside.

🇳🇴 Trolltunga, Norway

What a day! Me, my alter ego Slava and 21 km early morning speedrun after 5 hours of sleep to see the most beautiful piece of rock I’ve ever seen hanging above the abyss. Somehow I’ve made it there before my body fully realized what was happening.

Norway keeps being suspiciously good. Beautiful, ridiculously chill, welcoming, and apparently completely fine with putting its best views 10 km away from the nearest parking lot 😈

Would definitely do it again. Might even sleep longer beforehand next time (nope).
