Let’s celebrate World Otter Day, May 27, 2026! Here is a cute sea otter from Sitka Alaska to brighten your day. There are 13 different species of otters around the globe. Two call the U.S. their home; the sea otter and the river otter. As a keystone species, the sea otter helps keep coastal kelp forests healthy by controlling sea urchin populations. They have between 600,000 to 1,000,000 hair follicles per square inch 👀 and have learned to use tools to break open hard-shelled prey for a meal. 🦦
