📖 Iridescent plastic bags has a special icky place in my heart. However once the item has been used and the iridescent glow is partly dimmed something nice happens . In this case the silhouette of a building outside the window is hiding in the muddy iridescent puddle disguised in plastic scars. Like an old mirror with stains, scratches and cracks it gives a slightly distorted reflection of now through the damaged lens of the past.

’Vondelkerk/Conservatoire’ (2026)

This painting started its life as a depiction of a foam insert in a storage box protecting a handbag in the Hermès archive. However after looking at all the photos of the Vondelkerk engulfed in flames on New years that was all I could see in the painting. Something historical needing maintenance to protect the very spirit of the house.

It is possible to donate to the rebuilding of vondelkerk via @stadsherstel

📖So I came across this leather jacket a while back. The person who was trying to pass it on had left one image on the last slide where light was shining through a window hitting the jacket at just the right angle, that gave me a hint of what it was capable of. It was really catching the light like nothing I had ever seen before. Now it lives in my house. When you keep it indoors it really just looks like a black patent leather jacket however when you bring it outside it reflects the sunlight and glows in an array of deep browns. It took me a while to figure out that it is made out of eel leather. When you examine the jacket closely you can make out every single eel sacrificed to create this patchwork mirror. It’s a horrifying beautiful sunset

In Gargoyles, Simon Marsiglia observes garments in limbo: those that are already worn, left behind, and portrayed for the sake of being offered on the secondary market. These images are not staged fashion editorials, but have a functional purpose, attempting to showcase an item well enough to pass it on. However, as a by-product, they reveal something else within their frames: a glimpse, a flicker, a portal.
