It was such a rewarding year! To see this team win 5 times and steadily grow into a national contender makes me proud! Sure, we had our ups and downs, but to play the golf we played the last 2 weeks was so fun and rewarding to be apart of! Thanks fellas, for laying it on the line and competing like Illini! #proudcoach @illinimgolf by @smallmike4

Many people asked me this week that if I happened to earn one of the five PGA Tour Champion spots, would I leave coaching and go back to playing full-time. My answer was unequivocally, no. I continue to play professional golf because I still love to compete and play against the game’s best, but more importantly, playing competitive golf has always been great for my coaching! To feel and experience what my players feel when they’re competing and chasing their dreams, helps me relate to them and helps me to coach them better. Anytime that I can personally feel the emotional highs and lows of pressurized, competitive golf, the benefit that it can bring to coaching them is immeasurable. For 24 years, the love and respect that my players and I have for each other is rooted in our desire to have them become the most successful, competitive golfers that they can become, and the more experience that I can have in that arena, the better! by @smallmike4
