A historic gift that will make a lasting impact on generations of SMC students.

Spartanburg Methodist College has received the largest single estate gift in College history, an approximately $1.1 million gift from the estate of the late Billy Wood.

The Woods were dedicated supporters of SMC for nearly five decades, beginning with their first contribution to the Annual Fund in 1977. With this estate gift, their lifetime giving to SMC totals approximately $1.5 million.

Their remarkable generosity reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to education and creating opportunities for students to transform their lives through a college degree.

We are deeply grateful for the Woods’ lasting legacy and extraordinary commitment to SMC.

Learning the skills is one thing. Putting them to work is where the real growth happens. 🎓💼

At SMC, every bachelor’s degree student completes a Capstone Project, turning the leadership, communication, teamwork, and project management skills they’ve built through the Camak Core into real-world experience.

Students choose an idea, lead the project, tackle challenges, and take it from concept to completion.

It’s more than a final class. It’s proof you’re ready for what’s next. Click the link in our bio to read the full article. by @smcinsc

Sometimes finding your path starts with realizing the one you’re on isn’t for you. 💙

Martha Hooper ’26 came to SMC thinking business was her future. Then she took Psych 101. 🧠✨

By her second week, she had changed her major to psychology and discovered a passion for counseling. With flexible degree options and professors who helped her explore what she actually wanted to do, Martha found a path that fit her goals.

Now, she’s graduated from SMC debt-free and is pursuing her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, one step closer to her dream of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Because college isn’t just about choosing a major. It’s about finding what’s right for you.
