The visit of H.E. Mr. Pérez Ramos, Consul General of Mexico, to Bal Ashram and our compassionate communities was a coming together of cultures, perspectives, and lived experiences, united by something deeper than our differences: our shared compassion.

During his visit, he also visited the Banjara Education Centres in Nimri and the Bal Mitra Grams in Raghunathpura, witnessing the impact of compassion at the grassroots.

As he spent time with the children and engaged with the communities, their stories became a reminder that compassion speaks a language understood across borders. It connects people, opens hearts, and reminds us that the aspirations of a child, the dignity of every individual, and the hope for a better world are universal.

He says, “The experience here is very impressive, you know, to see not only the theory of what compassion is, but actually the results.”

Today, I remember the culmination of Bharat Yatra, the nationwide march against child sexual abuse and trafficking. The Yatra covered 11,000 km across 22 states in 2017.

800,000 people marched with us, and 1,400,000 pledges were taken. More importantly, the Yatra turned public outrage into collective action and resulted in concrete legal reforms to strengthen the protection of children from this heinous crime.

It reaffirms that when collective moral voices stand up for justice, the nation must listen and act.

Yesterday, Ambassador of Portugal, H.E. Mr João Ribeiro de Almeida, visited Bal Ashram, spending time with the children and learning about their experiences, aspirations, and journeys towards a brighter future.

Portugal’s support towards of Bal Ashram reflects a shared commitment to protecting childhood and strengthening the spaces that make these possibilities real. The Ambassador’s interaction with the children was an opportunity to witness the importance of creating environments where every child feels supported, valued, and encouraged to dream. As a gesture of support towards Bal Ashram’s continued upkeep, he contributed towards sustaining the nurturing environment that helps protect children’s futures.
“My first visit to Bal Ashram was a quiet, personal one. I even celebrated my birthday with the kids! The experience has stayed with me till date. The children here have found education and purpose in their lives. Many have gone on to become successful professionals and good citizens,” he said.

The visit also highlights how partnerships across borders can contribute to a common purpose of compassionate action.

When suffering is met with love, it can become hope. And when compassion becomes action, it can transform lives.

Today, Bal Ashram welcomed H.E. Mr. João Ribeiro de Almeida, Ambassador of Portugal to India, H.E. Mr. Pérez Ramos, Consul General of Mexico, Spanish author Javier Moro, and 30 Mexican nationals, whose presence made this coming together of cultures especially meaningful.

The day brought powerful reflections on the transformative power of compassion, dignity and opportunity.

Mohit, a Bal Ashram alumnus who once grazed goats, shared how his life changed after coming to the Ashram. From scoring 83% in Class 10 to topping his Class 12 examinations, he is now pursuing his graduation.

Author Javier Moro, who has spent much of his life in India, described Bal Ashram as a “place of the soul” — where children who once knew fear have found love, support and confidence. He reflected on the meaning of compassion: seeing a child in chains and thinking of that child as your own.

H.E. Mr. João Ribeiro de Almeida, who has visited Bal Ashram multiple times, said “At Bal Ashram, I met children who have come out of the darkest circumstances and have found purpose and meaning in life.”

"We are all co-marchers in the path to globalising compassion. Let us walk together so that no one if left behind," said SMGC Founders, Nobel Peace Laureate Shri @kailash.satyarthi and Mrs. @sumedhakailash.

The day came to a close with a deeply interesting interaction between the two dignitaries and The Satyarthi Fellows. Working in conflict zones, what makes for a good leader, the need for multilateralism – the Fellows came out enriched and inspired.

This gathering was a reminder that when we come together, we can turn suffering into hope and build a just, equitable, peaceful and sustainable world.

Compassion knows no borders. It brings us together, and it moves us to act.

On this International Day of the Girl Child, may every girl grow up with the freedom to dream, the courage to find her voice, and the opportunity to shape her own future. A world rooted in compassion is one where every girl is valued, every voice matters, and every possibility is within reach.

Like Hema Meena, may every girl have the opportunity to pursue her dreams and the freedom to shape her own future. Because when we stand for every girl, we stand for a more compassionate world for all.

by @smgc_official

by @smgc_official

Twelve years ago, one man’s fight for children’s freedom became a moment of global recognition. But for Nobel Peace Laureate @kailash.satyarthi , the Nobel Peace Prize was never the end of a journey. It was a call to take the fight further, until every child is free from labour, exploitation and injustice.

On 10 October 2014, the world recognised his tireless efforts to protect children’s rights, dignity and freedom. The recognition brought the fight into the global spotlight, strengthened conversations around child rights, and reinforced the belief that change is possible when the world refuses to look away.

It also sowed the seeds of a larger movement. The call to globalise compassion, made during his Nobel acceptance speech, led to the birth of the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion (SMGC) in 2024.
Twelve years on, the mission lives on through every child reached, every life transformed, and every community inspired to act.

12 years since the Nobel Peace Prize. The recognition was a moment and the mission is for a lifetime.

🇮🇳🌍 A spontaneous act of compassion. A historic first for Planet Caretakers India!

What started as a simple idea became the very first cleanup by Planet Caretakers India, in collaboration with the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion (SMGC). As a Satyarthi Fellow, I was happy to bring the spirit of compassionate leadership into action through this initiative.

At 7:15 AM, 15 people came together - local staff, SMGC team members, Satyarthi Fellows, and the Founder of Planet Caretakers - united by one simple purpose: to care for the environment we all share.

🌿 30 minutes. 15 people. 4 bags of trash collected.

But the story doesn’t end there.

The Fellows and the SMGC staff had conversations on how discarded trash could turn into creativity, awareness, and about our shared responsibility to protect the planet.

Because environmental action isn’t only about removing trash. It’s about cultivating awareness, strengthening connections, and inspiring a sense of belonging and responsibility toward all forms of life.

This is Compassionate Environment as a domain of action, not just a concept.

Because compassion shouldn’t stop at humanity.

We share this planet. We don’t own it. 🌍

A small action. A meaningful beginning. And hopefully, the first of many for Planet Caretakers India. 💚

Happy wedding anniversary to our beloved founders, Shri @kailash.satyarthi and Mrs @sumedhakailash — partners in life, and in a mission that has spanned 48 years.

It began with a conviction: no child should be denied freedom and education. Stepping fearlessly into the darkest corners together, united by courage and compassion, they built a movement that has gone on to free more than 1,38,000 children from child labour and the worst forms of exploitation.

48 years. One shared mission. A lifetime of steadfast devotion to justice, human dignity, and the transformative power of compassion.

The #SMGC family wishes our Maata and Bhaisaab endless joy, good health, and continued strength in inspiring millions across the globe.

Gandhi Jayanti at @balashramjaipur was a celebration of courage, truth and action.

The children came together through skits that brought Mahatma Gandhi's values to life, while also shining a light on a social evil that continues to affect children: child marriage. The District Child Protection Officer attended as a special guest.

#SMGC CEO Ms. @asmita.satyarthi shared three important lessons Gandhi has given us:

The power of the common person.
The courage to speak up.
And the strength to stand against injustice without violence, but with dignity and respect.

The day also turned these values into action. One of our Satyarthi Fellows, @that.debora.sa, initiated a clean-up drive with the children and staff members outside the Ashram, bringing the spirit of collective responsibility into the community.

Because the values we celebrate must also be the values we live.

Courage to speak.
Compassion to act.
And the power to create change together.

Today’s learning sessions at Bal Ashram brought together The Satyarthi Fellows and members from SMGC’s Community Collectives such as Bal Panchayat, Mahila Mandal, Yuva Mandal, creating a space to learn from one another, share experiences and build meaningful connections. People came together from different countries, different cultures, different geographies, but they were united by one shared belief - that the transformative force of compassion can actually solve the challenges that the most vulnerable and marginalised face.

Because Compassionate Communities are built when people come together, listen to each other and learn together.

Dinah Achola, one of the Fellows, said, "The power that exists in taking initiative and the restlessness that each of us have that we want to do something about the problems in the world - seeing the resilience that young leaders demonstrated and the change that can happens is evidence that we can all make that change one community at time."
